Month End Sale at Beeston Beeston’s Month End Sale attracted buyers from Scotland to South Wales with a large offering of quality cattle from commercial, pedigree and Focus Milk consignments, as well as 44 fresh cows and heifers from the noted Aytonian herd. Leading trade at £3000 was the Shottle daughter Aytonian Gremlin 24th
, a heifer
in milk consigned by Enchanted Holsteins, Preston. She is out of fi ve generations of VG or EX dams with her dam being an Ex92 Convincer daughter that gave 10,406kg. She was knocked down to M and G E Lloyd, Llandyssil, Montgomery. While at £2550 was Skyhigh Shottle Vaakje consigned by Clive and Anne Bason. This fresh heifer is out of the VG85 Stardale Minister Vaakje and sold to Rob Ward, Whitchurch. Four from Messrs Petch’s Aytonian herd made £2450 a head; two second calf cows by Mr Sam and Xacobeo to John Bayley, Nuneaton, and BC and C Weaver of Adderley, Market Drayton. John Bayley also purchased a Shottle heifer at the same money with another by the same sire selling to J D R and M J Warburton, Whitley, Warrington. The same home sold a further 10 heifers between £2200 and £2400. Prices for quality cattle didn’t refl ect the major drop in milk price, however, there was a slight drop in price for middle and lower quality. Average:13 Focus Milk Cows £1941.54, 80 Focus Milk heifers in milk £1893.50, six served heifers £1065, 67 German and Danish Imported Milking Heifers £1592.23. October saw high
Leading trade at 2150gns was the September calved heifer IAHMayfi eld Bluesky Pietje selling to A F and A H Powell, Bristol. This Bluesky daughter is out of a dam by Reece.
Second top price at 2100gns was the July calved second calved Comestar Manage daughter IAHMayfi eld Manager Golda, while IAHMayfi eld Sentry Mona made 2050gns when she sold to B A and G Hill, Somerset. This second calver gave 6665kg at 4.53%bf and 3.41%p in 285 days in her fi rst lactation. Other heifers by the same sire sold for 2020gns for Bidlea Padbury progeny. With 10 lots over £2000 the trade held up throughout the day with the July calved IAHMayfi eld Sentry Jess selling for 2000gns. Carlisle annual autumn bull sale The Annual Autumn Holstein Friesian Bull Sale at Carlisle in October was a successful sale with an average of £3167 for 56 bulls sold achieving a 95% clearance. There was a noticeable premium for bulls with no Goldwyn, Shottle, Oman or Planet. The sale hit a top of 6000gns for Kepculloch Summit, a son of the high type and health trait bull De-Su Gillespy. He is out of the Ex95 Altona Lea Rudolph Summer who was champion at the Royal Highland Show 2005 and is backed by a further fi ve generations of EX dams. This stylish bull sold to Calum and Steven Innes, Nairn, Invernesshire. Bryce and Robert Sloan sold Townlaw Asset at 5800gns to Messrs Wilson, Brechin, Angus. This Numero Uno son boasted one of the best pedigrees in the sale with his four dams averaging 94 points on classifi cation. His third dam was the EX97 All Canadian and All American Shoremar S Alicia regarded as Skychief’s all time best daughter. The best from Matthew Armour’s Annandale herd came at 5700gns for Annandale Kryptonite. Sired by the Mr Sam son Annandale Samuel he is out of the VG87 Annandale Allen Kimberley who is a granddaughter of the famous Ex94 Brynhyfryd Raider Kim. Having completed fi ve lactations Kimberley’s best lactation was 14,000kg at 4.17%bf and 3.18%p. Buying him was Andrew Richardson, Appleby. At 5600gns from the same home was the overall champion Annandale Lynton. Backed by 11 generations of EX or VG dams he is out of the EX90 Annandale Lheros Leeza 2. Leeza gave 11,047kg at 4.46%bf and 3.57%p in her third lactation. Having been placed champion by judge Andrew Wilson from the Northshields herd he went on to sell to A Sanderson, Croftlands, Cockermouth. Making the same money was Berryholme Dynamic, the reserve champion from David Wright. Also winning champion in the production section, this Dude son is out of two generations of National Show champions with his dam being Berryholme Shottle Flo. He is maternal brother to the 2011 All Britain Calf Show champion Feizor Jordon S Flo who
