NORTHERN EXPO

This year’s Northern Expo saw Robert and Elaine Butterfield secure their second consecutive grand champion win with Ingleview Gold Doll, as Katie Davidson reports

A

lthough lacking in numbers the quality that judge Hugh Neilson of Overside Holsteins had selected for the final line up was equally as strong as previous years. Taking the overall honours was Ingleview Gold Doll, a third calved five year old by Goldwyn. Calved in May and is giving 48kg a day. She stood second at Great Yorkshire Show and UK Dairy Day this year having been interbreed champion at Westmorland Show and first at Northern Expo last year. Classified EX93 she is backed up by three generations of EX dams with her dam the EX90 Alandrew Istar Doll, an Istar Aero daughter.

Judge Hugh Neilson commented: “I really admired this stylish and angular five year old for her dairy strength, spring of rib and especially her youthful udder. She oozes dairy quality right through with a silky udder showing lots of venation. ”

Standing reserve to her was previous Northern Expo champion winner Errolston Damion Ricki from Brian, Valerie and Craig Davidson. This EX94 classified fifth calver is out of the successful show cow Stannock Formation Ricki. This one month fresh Damion daughter is giving 60kg a day and as well as standing grand champion in 2010 she was first at Agri-Scot 2012.
