Jonathan Woodhouse was delighted to win his first sash with Shoreline Appleman Seaspray. Sired by Wyndford
“For having five calves this mature cow shows tremendous signs of longevity, although very fresh she has lots of body capacity and a welded on udder. Also, for a mature cow she has great locomotion,” commented Hugh.
Standing honourable mention was the heifer champion Holmland Lavanguard Pledge from the Lawrence family. Purchased at the Holmland dispersal she has been successfully shown as a calf standing junior champion at UK Dairy Expo 2014, reserve champion at the Lancashire and All Britain Calf Show. Calved in May she is currently giving 35kg a day. In the junior championship young enthusiast
BD Appleman Red, this November 2013-born heifer is out of a Manifold sired dam. She was reserve junior champion at Kendal Show, first maiden heifer at Millom and Broughton Show, as well as third at Lancashire Calf Show qualifier.
Reserve junior champion was Helen Eastham on the halter of her family’s Samlea Bossman Summer. This in-calf heifer is due to calve at two years old in November to Plant and is out of an EX91 Roylane Jordan daughter. She was third last year at the All Britain Calf Show, second at UK Dairy Expo and won calf championships at a few local shows.
Numbers on the night were boosted by a strong support from Newton Rigg College which had encouraged students to learn and experience the detail of showing. The College was rewarded by winning the Genetic Merit, Best New Exhibitor and Premier Exhibitor awards.
