Be part of the team for the next European Championships

The next European Championships will take place on 17th

– 19th June 2016 in the

town of Colmar in the Alsace region of North eastern France.

The event will be run by the French herd book Prim’ Holstein, in conjunction with Eurogenetique and local breeders and will follow a similar format to the highly successful championship held in Fribourg, Switzerland earlier this year. Holstein UK has already started work to ensure that UK breeders will be represented at the championships, working in conjunction with Team GB who attended the last event. Head of Classification Michael Parkinson says: “The show is great opportunity to promote UK genetics to the European market and further afield.” If you wish to exhibit at this prestigious event, get in touch with either Michael Parkinson or Lynette Smale.

Holstein UK has a new President and Chairman, Dairy Shows have been taking place across the country and the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show took place at Three Counties Showground for the first time. This issues theme is ‘The next generation’ and I’ve been thoroughly impressed by the passion, enthusiasm and dedication of the young members I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing. It is definitely

very promising and inspiring for the future of the breed and dairy industry to see such driven and focussed young people coming through. This issue’s technical features are focussed on the challenges faced during winter with calf temperature, winter clipping, nutrition for fertility and looking at the more business end of the effects following the end of quota. Along with a long drive to Carmarthen for the Welsh Dairy Show, which was made worthwhile with a good show in numbers and quality, the highlight for the December issue has to be the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show. The standard, atmosphere and great sportsmanship are a credit to HYB and the organisational team behind the event. I can’t believe as I write this that with a December issue comes the mention of Christmas, so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Christmas and I look forward to seeing what 2015 will bring.
