Stephen and Ann Morley purchased Dynamic for their Petteril herd, Southwaite. Gerrard Mario was a bull that had created a lot of pre-sale interest due to his outcross pedigree and then sold at 5500gns to J Gatherer, Cumnock, Ayrshire. This Stanleycup son is out of an Ex92 Pagewire daughter of the famous Denmire Strom Marie making four generations of Ex dams. His dam Denmire Pagewire Marie 89 gave 13,194kg at 5.66%bf and 3.47%p in her third lactation. Kevin and Christine Wilson from the Warnelview herd sold 10 attractive bulls all bred from pedigrees with high butterfat and protein and generations of EX and VG dams. Top price from this herd was Warnelview Burnett, sired by McCormick and out of an EX93 scored dam by Champion that gave more than 100t of milk lifetime and classified EX seven times. He sold for 5200gns to Messrs Wilson, Uldale, Wigton. Annandale were back in the money at 5000gns with Annandale Four Winds selling to Drumchapel Estate, Brechin. Sired by the homebred Garrison son Annandale Garrison, he is out of the Ex91 Honeypot Wildman Papoose, one of six Ex dams and backed by a further six generations of VG or Ex cows. His dam gave 14,515kg at 4.35%bf and 3.22%p in her fourth lactation. Average: 56 bulls £3167.18 (Harrison and Hetherington).
Border and Lakeland Club Sale Top price at the October Border and Lakeland Club Sale, Carlisle, was 3800gns for Malcolm Hutchinson’s Bowberhill Fever Lana. This two year old heifer is out of the EX92 Mr Sam daughter Bowberhill Sam Lana and was backed up by a further eight generations of VG or EX. Fresh in the middle of September she was described by pre-sale judge Isaac Lancaster from I-Cow Holsteins as: “One of the best uddered heifers I have seen for some time, I have no doubt she will develop in to a show cow for the future.” She was purchased by Alan McCamley, Ochiltree, Ayrshire.
Second top of the day at 2400gns was the reserve champion, Stowbeck Sid Juliet 2 from Skirwith Hall Farms, Appleby. Out of a dam by Final Cut she has an EX95 scored third dam by Igniter that gave over 70t lifetime. This stylish black heifer joins the Woodcatt herd of Duncan and Helen Horsley. Skirwith Hall then sold the August calved Stowbeck Xacobeo Nina at 2200gns. Classified GP82 she is out of three generations of VG dams, her dam being the VG87 Stowbeck Bolton Nina. Giving 37kg a day she sold to J and E Irving, Stranraer. The same home had the top price cow at 1880gns with the 43kg a day Stowbeck Baltimor Pansy. Keirmains Lucente Val 13 from William Young traded at 2150gns to C D and C A Somerville,
Carrutherstown, Dumfries. Calved at exactly two years old at the end of September she is out of a Shaker sired dam. Gavin Struthers sold 20 heifers, which peaked at 2020gns for a Lutz-Brookview Burt daughter giving 38kg and selling to J and E Irving, Stranraer. Averages: two cows £1869, 59 heifers £1823.12, four Ayrshire heifers £1496 (Harrison and Hetherington).
Champion leads Moira dairy trade at 2000gns Top price at 2000gns at what was a steady sale at Moira was the pre-sale champion Newry Buckles Mayflower from Jim and James Stevenson, Kilkeel.
Sired by the home bred REW Buckeye son Newry Buckles, she is out of three generations of VG or EX with her dam being the VG88 Newry Starboy D Mayflower who gave 14,200kg at 3.88%bf and 3.14%p in her fourth lactation. She was knocked down to Gavin McKnight, Templepatrick, County Antrim. The same buyer then paid 1980gns to secure the honourable mention winner from the same home. Newry Buckles Aline is by the same sire as the sale leader and out of Newry Dotman Aline who gave almost 13,000kg at 3.70%bf and 3.14%p in her first lactation. Next best at 1740gns was the fourth prize heifer Ballygrainey Bolton Darkie from Jay Warden, Bangor, County Down. This January 2012-born heifer is out of a homebred dam by Talent who is one of seven generations of VG or EX dams. This heifer was snapped up by John Stewart from Portaferry, County Down. October Mid-Month Sale Top price at the October Mid-Month Sale at Beeston was a Red and White heifer from Peter Mellors, Kegworth, Derbyshire, with Cricketfield Rose Royce Sara Red, a daughter of Sterndale Rose Royce out of a Bookman dam and then five generations of VG or EX dams. This potential Excellent cow joined the Winton herd of Peter Waring and Son, Beverley, East Yorkshire. There were a total 30 milking heifers making £2000 or more including eight over £2200. Three of these were among the Burnbrae consignment of Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle, Shrewsbury. Their top seller was Burnbrae Butze Amanda 2nd
out of a Bickleypark cow that sold giving 33 kg for £2300, with two others by Bomaz Shottle Kampman 691 making £2280 and £2200 each. All three were purchased by D and H E Colclough and Son, Hassall, Sandbach.
Mark and Ann Bowden had a strong line up of heifers and sold up to £2200 twice for daughters of Loader and Metallic. Clive and Ann Bason of Minshull Vernon sold a daughter of
Topshot at £2210 and the Bougheys of Tarporley had a daughter of Regancrest Oman Ingles that topped their consignment at £2200. Cows peaked at £2000 for a second calver from Peter Waring in the form of Winton Palermo Pamela, who gave more than 8700kg as a heifer and sold giving 42 kg. Tim Blackshaw of Lymm sold up to £1780 for a daughter of Deangate Quentin with others from the same home regularly making £1500 upwards, while maiden heifers were up to £760. An entry of 31 heifer calves were dominated by the inclusion
of 23 from the Burnbrae herd who are reducing the numbers of young stock on the farm. Their top seller at £640 was Burnbrae Astro Sharon, a daughter of Delta others made over £600 and the average for the lot was £530. Averages: Six Focus Milk cows £1666.67, 44 Focus Milk heifers £1779.32, 19 in-calf and served heifers £1405.25; seven maiden heifers £726.67; 31 Heifer Calves £439.19. (Wright Marshall).
