index (GPLI) young sires with a PLI of £591. Genervations Epic (Superstition x VG85 Baxter x VG86 Shottle x VG87 Oman) also traces back to this amazing family. Explode’s mother is a full sister to Wabash-Way Evett, the granddam of Epic. His daughters are just calving in around the world and early reports are very favourable. Explode’s sire Sandy-Valley Bolton, is having a big impact on the breed, his breeders, Sandy-Valley, have recently quoted; “Bolton’s combination of good udders and lots of milk can be hard to obtain.” As well as Explode, other sons include Coyne-Farms Dorcy (former number one US sire), De-Su Gillespy and Mountfi eld SSC DCY Mogul.

PROGENY: Explode was used heavily as a genomic young sire in the US. European breeders had to wait a

while before his semen was available in Europe and at this point, calves were already on the ground in America, with his fi rst American calves being born in the summer of 2010. Explode has started well in the UK, with fi ve of his fi rst eight classifi ed daughter scoring VG as 2yr olds. And out of 2,185 progeny that have been genomic tested worldwide, his highest GTPI and GLPI daughter lives in the UK and was born in Germany, Wiltor Dreamgirl VG87-2yrs.

The most recent Explode daughter to sell at a sale in the UK was Sterndale Explode Ashlyn (Explode x EX91 Goldwyn x EX90 Durham x EX96 Encore x EX92 Odyssey) for 10,000gns to Designer Holsteins in Essex.

KINGSTREET SIRES SAYS: Sam Wake: We wanted to market Wabash-Way Explode

in the UK because of his famous dam, Wabash-Way Emilyann. She was the former number one GTPI cow in the breed and was bred from 11 generations of VG/EX. We also really like his balanced genomic proof and he is free of Goldwyn blood. His fi rst four daughters classifi ed in the UK went VG86, VG86, VG86 and VG84 (two weeks fresh). He has got many more daughters due to calve this year which we are very excited about. Having seen his daughters, they excel in their udder and front end, his daughters are powerful animals and display adequate width throughout. They are all very clean-boned and have fantastic udders. Explode works well on Goldwyn and Oman bloodlines.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Explode will leave you with tall, stylish daughters possessing plenty of strength

and great udders that produce a lot of milk. However, he must be protected for milk components and his fertility index. He is certainly a bull for breeders who are enthusiastic about high Type.
