A vine time at Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio

The pure extra virgin olive oils and home-grown wines of Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio are found all over the world, but they only come from one place, in Umbria, Italy, and that place is now open to visitors…

Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio is a stone’s throw from the city of Perugia and sits on a hill, overlooking hundreds of hectares agricultural land, home to its wine and olive oils, as well as wild forest. The Fasola Bologna family’s castle still holds walls built two centuries before the birth of Christianity but its business has moved into the 21st century, winning many awards for its sustainable practices.

Now visitors to Castello Monte Vibiano Vecchio can experience "the green heart of Italy” first-hand, with the official Ecotour. It starts with a journey around the 217BC vineyard and century-old olive groves, aboard a fleet of electric jeeps.

Visitors then come back to the winery to observe the winemaking process, from the crushing of grapes to the vinification area, showing how wines are made from grape varieties like sangiovese, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah, grechetto, sauvignon blanc and trebbiano.

Continuing to the ageing area, where Monte Vibiano’s most exclusive red

wines lies in wood barrels, there is short video before a tasting of its famous unfiltered extra virgin olive oil at the Green Wine Bar designed by Maryam Shams, wife of company's CEO Lorenzo Fasola Bologna. This is accompanied by bruschetta, local cheese and wines:

Maria Camilla (IGP) A fresh and well-balanced white wine made of a 40% Trebbiano, 40% Grechetto and 20% Sauvignon Blanc.

Maryam Rosè (IGP) This new wine is young and fruity, based on Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Montepulciano Grapes.

MonVì (DOP) This red wine has scents of berry. The base is Sangiovese, aged in steel and blended with 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon.

l'Andrea (DOP) The estate's most important and elegant red wine ages well. It is made with 50% Sangiovese blended with 15% Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Sagrantino and 5% Syrah.
