Helsinki Airport gets smart

Helsinki Airport will soon be the first airport in the world with the ability to track passenger flows during their entire airport experience. The new tools have been developed

by Walkbase, a Finnish company that is the leader in retail tracking analytics and indoor wifi positioning systems. Walkbase has installed dozens of sensors throughout the entire terminal complex, which track the estimated 60-70% of people who visit the airport and leave their mobile phones with wifi turned on. The technology lets airport retailers maximise their marketing efforts and will soon allow passengers to benefit from location-based content on their phones – such as changed departure times, gate information and transfer directions. "The smart phone will be able to tell

you if there is time to shop or eat or if you need to make way to your departure gate," said Tuomas Wuoti, Walkbase ceo. finavia.fi

Oslo Airport's chef success

Christer Rødseth who works as executive chef at Oslo Airport, has been named the winner in the Global Chef Challenge held in Norway earlier this month. Christer assisted chef Christopher

Davidsen to beat off competition from some of the world’s leading culinary practitioners, including teams from the US, Hong Kong, Australia, Italy, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, to take the title. The competition involves preparing

a four-course dinner for 12 people in seven hours. This is the second victory for Rødseth, who took the top prize at the event in 2012 as assistant to Geir Magnus Svae. A delighted Rødseth said this latest win would help to further develop his reputation on the international culinary stage. osl.no
