Vox Telecom takes iNetVu

C-COM Satellite Systems By Ian McMurray

South Africa’s largest independent

telecommunications firm, Vox Telecom, has started to take delivery of iNetVu mobile antennas from C-COM Satellite Systems. The C-COM- manufactured antennas will be used by Vox Telecom on the YahClick Go broadband satellite service. YahClick offers Africa’s first Ka-band satellite connection providing coverage over highly targeted areas, allowing for greater efficiencies on the ground and a lower cost to the end user. “With Yahclick, South

Africa’s first Ka-band broadband service, we’ve been able to slash the price of satellite broadband costs,”

said Jacques Visser, project manager for Vox Telecom. “Now YahClick can also be mobile, using C-COM’s technology.” Visser said that C-COM’s

iNetVu mobile antennas have been designed from the ground up to be fast, robust and easy to operate. “For the end user, it’s literally a matter of pressing one button,” he said. “The antenna’s software controller and robotic movement systems will automatically find the satellite signal and connect within less than five minutes. If there’s no [mains] electricity, it can run off a car battery.” The products have already been deployed at several high-profile events in South Africa. 4.C55

Q&A

Stuart Chaston European sales manager, IO Industries

Has IBC come at a good time for the electronic media industry? Why? IBC always represents a three- quarter point in the calendar year and half way through the financial year. It is the one exhibition in the year where Europe can collectively take a step back and look at the industry and all its sectors. 2014 will be the year for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the Winter Olympics in Russia and Commonwealth Games in Scotland. Large sporting events are major revenue opportunities for broadcasters, an area that is growing as a great opportunity for our 2KSDI mini camera.

What do you think are the key developments in, or threats to, your market sector at the current time?

The acceptance of mini cameras having equal image quality as studio/OB cameras is a major step forward. These

cameras use a 2/3-inch sensor with a global shutter and external control can be via third party RCP’s. Being built as extremely rugged but still lightweight they can be deployed in a multitude of advanced applications.

Why should delegates visit your stand at IBC?

IBC sees the debut of several new features for our 2KSDI. We are showing control from a third Party RCP which includes direct EF lens control, the first European demonstration of interlaced (1080/50i) output format, plus some extra significant operational improvements. All delegates are invited to our stand or even hands-on in the IBC Production Insight area (also in Hall 11). 11.A75
