A tablet application with 360° video synchronised with a 360° spatial sound over headphones, is one of the exciting audio developments demonstrated for the first time anywhere at the Future Zone.


It has been devised by collaborative project BiLi, dedicated to binaural listening, or ‘sound spatialisation over headphones’, which depends on head size and movement and other morphological


parameters to offer a three- dimensional hearing experience. “We have enough processing power in mobile devices to offer a headphone listening experience driven by binaural synthesis,” explained Matthieu Parmentier, France Télévisions, Innovations & Dévelopements. “This means we can demonstrate how we can process the sound within the receiver to fool the listener's brain and propose a real sensation of sound sources coming from far left/right/up/ down/front/behind.” Also on show: a professional monitoring processor; a beta-


version of Radio France’s multichannel audio website which will pick-up your listening preferences by choosing your head-size, headphones brand and virtual room size; a beta plug-in that permits 360° audio panning, with binaural personalisation and technology for engineering multichannel audio over speakers and headphones at the same time. BiLi aims to offer a consumer technology for driving spatial audio over headphones in 2015 as well as to launch professional products for accurate spatial monitoring.

New development makes VoD clips Unified Streaming

company claims opens new doors for broadcasters, content owners and service providers to monetise live streaming and offer new services.


Unified Capture creates VoD clips from any stream, and


does so on a frame-accurate basis. Possible uses for the technology proposed by the developer range from personalised recording services to EPG-based in- stream cutting. Unified Capture can


apparently be integrated into a service provider’s workflow, offering support for HDS, HLS, Smooth and DASH streams to enable a consistent viewer experience on all screens, says Unified Streaming. The clip is created simply by

specifying the start and end time, and can then be made available for viewing. To keep things simple, Unified Streaming uses one manifest file, which includes all information about the streamed content. It therefore uses one encode, one workflow and one manifest for all formats and DRMs. 14.115

New for IBC from Ateme is the Kyrion CM5000, a high performance encoder for contribution and distribution links based on the company’s FPGA design, permitting complete software


upgradeability from SD to HD or 4:2:0 to 4:2:2. Feature upgrades include a solution for video multiplex operators called Seamless Channel Insertion (SCI). Based on open standard/non- proprietary Piecewise CBR control rate mode, this feature is said to allow broadcast contribution network operators to smoothly insert or remove

decoding. A carrier-grade software video transcoding solution dedicated to multiscreen delivery of VoD, feature upgrades for the TITAN File Transcoder include support of HEVC output for any type of file transcoding, from mobile resolution to 4K high framerate video.

Showing what the company claims is an industry first, Bridge Technologies is launching the VB266 DVB-C2 Monitoring Module. The company says that
