Multiplayer gaming can kill vampires

Philips uWand

By Anne Morris Philips uWand is demonstrating same-screen multiplayer gaming on a Smart TV with the latest game title from its new partner Gamious. In the game Dark Day LA, one player assumes the role of a

vampire trying to mingle with the crowds, while the other is a police sniper trying to track and shoot the monster down. Each player uses a TV remote control, with uWand technology built in. “Our goal is to bridge the gap between casual Smart TV games and the games console experience,” said Navin Natoewal, general manager at Philips uWand. “Philips uWand

is the first to enable multiplayer same-screen gaming to Smart TV.” uWand technology combines direct pointing with gesture control that puts players in the middle of the action, with no accidental cursor drift. 14.103

Optribution sends 48 signals on one fibre DEV Systemtechnik

By Ian McMurray Newly-announced enhancements to its Optribution product family are an IBC focus for DEV

Systemtechnik. The company has expanded its portfolio and now offers modules for use in its Optribution chassis based on DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology. With DEV’s Optribution System for DWDM, the

company says that 48 signals can be transmitted over a single optical fibre simultaneously, with a maximum signal quality over a distance of more than 200 kilometres. A 3RU DEV Optribution chassis can be equipped with a 16:1 DWDM

system. The user saves purchase or leasing costs, says DEV, and increases systems reliability because of fewer connection and link line requirements.

In addition, a DEV Matrix with optical inputs is being launched here at IBC. Bringing

together optical reception and RF matrix functionality, the new system can be realised and upgraded to any size up to 1024x1024 and is said to be easy to manage with one CPU and one web interface regardless of size. 1.F34
