Crudely described, according to exhibitor Screen Subtitling Systems, subtitles are a targeted form of timed metadata, so in their simplest form they contain text which is timed to video. As such, says the company, subtitle preparation and management tools are very suitable for preparing metadata other than subtitles which need to have an association with media time. Using standard automation second event scheduling within a playout system, Screen’s subtitling transmission system Polistream Black can now be used to trigger interactive second screen content without the need for any secondary hardware.
Pirates to face new scrutiny
Viaccess-Orca
By Ian McMurray With the advent of multi- network content delivery and multiscreen content consumption, Viaccess- Orca believes that content service providers need to embrace intelligent security solutions that will enable them to sustain their investments in content and build a foundation for engaging customer experiences. The company’s new anti- piracy platform is claimed to help content service providers protect their TV services, as well as discover new forms of piracy on a variety of platforms such as web, peer-to-peer networks and so on, by providing smart analysis of pirated content.
The platform includes a suite of services targeting live event monitoring, such as major sports matches and reality shows, monitoring VoD content on illegal sites, monitoring illegitimate peer-to-peer activity, and managing websites’ black list for content service providers. 1.A51
Because Polistream is natively a multi-language subtitle transmission solution, Screen claims that it has
developed a system whereby an additional language can be applied to transmit a timed metadata stream as a
subtitle/caption file. This file can then trigger web page content along with countless viewer
engagement and advertising possibilities, according to the company. Broadcasters can dynamically link their content with connected devices such as tablets and smartphones. Character and presenter
biographies can be activated, for instance, and, says Screen, advertising around product placement and interactive advert break triggering can all be efficiently employed. 1.C49
