J 8 eff Bezos, the founder
and CEO of Amazon, was recently asked what was the key to its business model success. His reply: “We’re not competitor obsessed, we’re customer obsessed. We start with the customer and we work backwards.”
And this from a man whose interaction with
customers is entirely conducted online and not face-to-face.
Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart used
to say to his executives: “if you are confused, go to the aisles!”
That has always been the best strategy in
any business and it should be no different for publishers.
