SUMMER CAMP GUIDE 2012 CAMP STAFF EXPERTS


The Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA is confident that our staff team is the very best that the county has to offer. Combined with a fun loving spirit and well-trained skill set, our staff team looks forward to making your child’s summer camp experience magnificent.


The YMCA’s management team hand picks staff using an extensive selection process. Pre-interview essays are used to determine candidates’ outlook, experience and intentions. Group interviews are used to determine potential staff members’ past experience with youth, ability to lead and personality fit, while individual interviews are used to determine critical thinking abilities, supervision aptitude and problem solving skills. At the completion of this process, every staff member receives an updated background check, cross-reference with sex offender list and multiple reference checks.


We don’t stop there to create the optimal summer camp experience for you and your campers. We take nothing for granted and spend over 24 hours training each of our Camp Leaders and over 45 hours training our Unit Leaders.


STAFF ARE TRAINED IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: - Safety Certification including CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding - Active, low active and transitional activity instruction - Adult/Child mentorship development - Child protection and abuse prevention - Behavior management and bully prevention - Emotional and physical development and safety - Transportation Safety - Field trip and off-site safety and procedures - General risk management and prevention - Children with special needs - Pool and beach safety - Character Development - Rock wall leadership and safety - Leadership behaviors and tactics - Age appropriate activity and instructional techniques - Inspiring enthusiasm and energy into activities - Heat and sun protection and safety - Customer service - Partnering with parents and families


UNIT LEADERS ARE ADDITIONALLY TRAINED IN THE FOLLOWING: - Lifeguarding certification - Curriculum development and design - Staff/Team leadership and development - Advanced and multi-dimensional additions to general camp leader training.
