SUMMER CAMP GUIDE 2012 SURVIVAL CAMP


3rd - 6th Grade | $223/$268 | Sessions 8 | Ada Harris


You are a survival expert for a week! Tie knots, learn to make fi re, build forts and learn to use GPS. Campers will take fi eldtrips to local parks and go on hikes in order to explore all survival techniques like fi nding food in the wild, where to fi nd water, how to grow a garden and what indicators direct you to safety. This is a real-life expedition and you’ll gain all the skills you need! Campers compete in team challenges and will learn basic wilderness survival skills.


TEEN – DIGITAL MUSIC


6th – 10th Grade | $210/$255 Sessions 7 | Ada Harris


Play the funky music, DJ! Join the YMCA experts with a hands-on-approach to creating your own production. Using music creation software, along with beat pads, pre-recorded loops, microphones, keyboard controllers and digital audio workstations, campers will explore all that digital music has to offer. A showcase will highlight each project on the last day of camp.


TEEN – IRONMAN - NEW!

This clinic offers skill based training and provides the building blocks to be successful in all phases of the sport. All aspects of competing in an ironman are covered, including proper swimming and running technique, as well as bike handling and transition area skills. Other topics will include safety, nutrition/healthy habits, dynamic exercising and race day tips. Your teen will develop all the skills needed for success on race day. Clinics will be led by experienced athletes and trainers.

Think you are ready to go off on your own? Learn basics of dorm life and the basics of being in the real world. Learn to cook, do laundry, control your bank account and get a job. This camp won’t be all work and no play. Learn to balance your life with fun camp activities including daily fi eldtrips to beacon’s and themeparks.


TEEN SCENE

Join campers your own age for the adventure that is Teen Scene! Come with the YMCA as we explore the many teen-focused activities in Southern California. Trips may include traveling to Knott’s Soak City, Wild Rivers, Belmont Park, Rock Climbing and more! The week will also include trips to the beach and other teen focused destinations. This is the perfect camp for your teen!


TEEN – VOLUNTEERING - NEW!


6th – 11th Grade | $175/$205 | Sessions 10 | YMCA


Make a real positive difference in your community. Get 25 hours of volunteer credit while being with your friends. The fi rst 4 days will be fi lled with projects planned by counselors, including working on playgrounds, helping at animal shelters and reading to children. Friday will be camper’s choice. Take leadership and plan your own project that you are passionate about and see it put into action at camp.


TEEN – WATER SPORTS - NEW!

One week long of the ultimate San Diego summer experience! Spend days at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center enjoying the sun and the water. You will have the opportunity to wakeboard, sail, surf, kayak and snorkel. Campers must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for 5 minutes. No other experience required.
