ON TOUR with

Michael F. Smith

u GER Michael Smith took a break from his travels during Thanksgiving week and was able to return to his home lodge, the Plant City, FLORIDA, Lodge, where he pitched in to help with the lodge’s Thanksgiving Turkey Sale fund-raiser. During the fund-raiser, the lodge sold nearly 400 deep-fried turkeys and raised $4,600 for the lodge Scholarship Program. GER Smith is pictured with some of the turkeys that were sold at the fund-raiser.

l GER Michael Smith and his wife, Sandra, traveled to Des Moines, IOWA, to attend the fall conference of the Iowa Elks Association. During their visit, in addition to sharing in meetings and a banquet with 420 Elks and guests from around the state of Iowa, the GER spent one morning giving an interview to a local radio station and another morning viewing one of the fire safety education trailers that constitute Iowa’s state major project, the Iowa Fire Safety Initiative. The trailers contain information and displays explain- ing how children and adults can prevent and react to fires and other emergency situations. While the GER was giving his radio interview, the First Lady and other ladies visited the Science Center of Iowa to tour the Da Vinci the Genius exhibit. Pictured at the entry to one of the fire safety education trailers are (from left) GER Smith, State Sponsor Ted Callicott, and Iowa Elks Association President Leslie Fister.
