US Marines serving overseas and their families at home; and a holiday donation to the Elks National Home.


Orange, CA, Lodge held a Chili Cook- Off fund-raiser, which 120 people attended, and raised $940. The funds were split between the Elks National Foundation and the state major project, which provides in-home therapy to children with special needs.


Orange Coast District, CA, lodge members supervised a sporting event for 275 Special Olympians during the California Special Olympics and awarded a medal to each athlete who took part.


In other news, the district, with the help of scouts from several local Boy Scout troops, held its annual Flag- Retirement Ceremony and properly disposed of more than 4,000 worn and damaged US flags.


Page, AZ, Lodge members attended the opening of a new building for the Page Regional Domestic Violence Services (PRDVS), which works to prevent domestic violence and sexual abuse and provides services to victims of those crimes. The lodge, with the help of a $10,000 ENF Impact Grant, donated $50,000 worth of materials, labor, and funds to help build the structure. In other news, the lodge held its annual Christmas Party for more than 200 children and adults with special needs and their caretakers and treated them to food, musical enter- tainment, entertainment by clowns, and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, who gave each guest a present. In more news, the lodge donated nearly $2,000 to various charities. Donations included a grant to the state major project, which provides in- home therapy to children with special needs, to provide a toy for Christmas to each child who benefits from the program, and donations to local youth sports and activities for children with special needs. The lodge also made a donation to the Montevideo Elemen- tary School PTA to support the school’s arts and science program; a donation to the National Charity League to support Operation Valen- tine, in which hundreds of volunteers pack thousands of care packages for

Quincy, CA, Lodge raised $450 in donations for its Christmas Basket Program during its Thanksgiving Dinner. The funds, along with $200 in other donations, provided for 15 Christmas baskets to be given to needy families.


Sierra Vista, AZ, Lodge donated $1,000 to the Fort Huachuca Main Post Chapel, nearly $600 to Carmichael Elementary School, and $500 to the Salvation Army. All donations went toward the respective organizations’ programs that provide Thanksgiving baskets to needy families.
