RODY LEVEN, a 2006 $4,000 Most Valuable Student scholarship recipient sponsored by the Willoughby-Cleveland, Ohio, Lodge, recently graduated from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a major in economics. Westminster College was a place Brody knew well and a place where he let his talent for helping others shine. During his time as student body president at Westminster College, Brody worked on a number of projects aimed at changing the lives of those in his immediate community as well as the lives of those in far-away places. Among the many projects Brody was involved in on the Westminster College campus were Westminster Wheels, a free bike rental operation that provides bicycles to Westminster College faculty, staff, and students, and the school’s Community Outreach Program, which helps bring local youths to the Westminster campus. As student body president, Brody was also active on projects that affected people outside of the confines of the Westminster College area. On one occasion, Brody helped set a Guinness World Record for getting the largest number of college students to register as organ donors during an eight-hour period, and on another occasion, he helped raise more than $5,000 for two organizations that were raising funds for victims of last year’s devastating earthquake in Haiti. “With the help of the Elks,” Brody says, “I was able to do so much, and it made me a more complete person.”

When he wasn’t working on a project at Westminster College, Brody was always looking for his next adventure. An avid skier and lover of the outdoors, he has spent a lot of time “chasing winter,” as he puts it, but he has other pursuits as well. This past September, for example, he took up cycling and decided to bike from Montana to his home in Ohio for Thanksgiving. With everything he needed packed onto his bike, Brody cycled across the country and made it home in less than six weeks.

Brody’s future plans include traveling to India for a month and then heading back to Salt Lake City to focus on skiing, his lifetime passion, before heading to graduate school and starting his own business one day. ■
