Southwest District, FL, lodge mem- bers visited the Bay Pines VA medical facility and treated more than 200 veterans, staff, and visitors to lunch and musical entertainment. District lodges also donated more than 500 pairs of socks and undershirts to the facility to be given to veterans.
Cass County, MO, Lodge members, accompanied by members of the Archie High School Family and Consumer Science class, visited the Kansas City VA Medical Center, where they met with nearly 100 veterans. The lodge had provided the students with $500 worth of materials with which to make 60 scarves and nearly 40 pajama bottoms, and together they presented these items to the veterans. Additionally, a lodge member dressed as Santa Claus gave each veteran a candy cane. Lodge members and students also visited with 30 members of an ex-POW group at their regular meeting. In other news, lodge members visited the Kansas City VA Medical Center and treated about 300 patients, family members, and staff members to lunch and card games. The lodge also donated more than 130 pounds of coffee, more than 140 toothbrushes, nearly 2,000 razors, 45 T-shirts, more than 50 pairs of underwear, and $300 in gift cards to the center.
Vero Beach, FL, Lodge held its annual Veterans Day Barbecue, which more than 150 people, including more than 80 veterans, attended, and treated all attending veterans to lunch. The lodge also donated $165 collected at the event to Indian River County to support the county’s services to veterans. Additionally, the lodge donated ten boxes of toiletries, clothing, games, and books collected at the Veterans Day Barbecue to the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center.
Viera, FL, Lodge held a Veterans Appreciation Dinner and treated 30 veterans residing at the Volunteers of America transitional house for homeless veterans in Cocoa to dinner. In related news, the lodge used a
$1,000 ENF Gratitude Grant to donate $500 to Volunteers of America and $500 to Honor Flight–Brevard, which flies WW II veterans to Wash- ington, DC, to visit the National World War II Memorial and other national monuments.
Cicero-Berwyn, IL, Lodge members visited the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital and donated several pairs of fingerless leather gloves for wheel- chair users to be used by veterans being treated at the hospital.
Elmhurst, IL, Lodge members, with the help of an American Legion post, treated 30 veterans from the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital to Thanksgiv- ing dinner at the American Legion post building.
Florissant, MO, Lodge members visited the Missouri Veterans Home–St. Louis and treated 300 veterans to a Christmas Party, which featured snacks, live musical entertainment by a brass band, and gifts, which included 80 hand-crocheted afghans and scarves and 300 sweatshirts.
