Deep Research Report on Global and China CIGS Thin Film Solar Cell Industry”, CIGS has become the best solar cell invested product when compared to other PV materials. This trend is expected to continue as time goes on.

CIGS module efficiency will continue increasing and its 2009 average is about 12% increased from 10% in 2008. Some middle line products reached 16%-17% efficiency, close to that of crystalline silicon solar cell modules. Furthermore, CIGS module cost has greatly reduced; some equipment suppliers said that their product line could reduce their manufacturing cost to about $0.8US/Watt.

The author of the report believes CIGS will become the best solar cell technology offering high efficiency and low cost on a large scale.

Ascent Solar to Provide CIGS Solar Cells in Europe

The firm has signed an agreement with Green Earth Energy and Technology of Belgium to distribute its flexible thin-film solar modules in Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany.

Ascent Solar a developer of CIGS solar modules, has announced that Green Earth Energy and Technology will begin distribution of its lightweight, high-power modules for building integrated (BIPV), and portable power solutions in Europe

The agreement with Green Earth Energy and Technology gives Ascent Solar access to multiple segments in Europe’s solar market including direct integration into building materials for residential and commercial solutions. The firm will provide its flexible CIGS modules to Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany.

Ascent Solar President and CEO Farhad Moghadam stated, “We are pleased to announce our agreement with Green Earth Energy and Technology. This relationship will give us access to new and emerging market opportunities in building applied photovoltaics that could provide significant opportunity in Europe over the coming years. We also expect that other products in our lineup of flexible, lightweight CIGS modules will be marketed through this relationship.”

InnoLas Systems: Manufacturing at the Krailling company site

In order to secure production capacities sustainably with a continuously growing order volume, InnoLas has opened a further production facility very close to its headquarters in Krailling. Some 1,500 m2 have been added for manufacturing and 400 m2

Orders in for InnoLas IMPALA Laser Systems

The firm has received a number of orders for its laser system used in thin film solar cell production targeted towards CIS and CIGS manufacturers. In order to cope with the order volume, InnoLas has opened a further production facility close to Munich.

Over the last few months, InnoLas Systems GmbH, a specialist for laser processing systems, has been awarded orders for the delivery of process equipment for the manufacture of thin film modules with a total annual production volume output of 300 MW.

In particular, several customers from all over the world have ordered the IMPALA series machines which focus on copper indium selenide (CIS) and CIGS processing.

The IMPALA is a large format laser processing system with a panel size of up to 1600 mm. With multi-laser operation and parallel processing, the tool ensures high throughput using several tool heads. Innovative handling concepts and the option to apply through-the-glass processing minimise damages and soiling during the course of the structuring process.
