Baseball and Soſt ball are skill sports requiring fi ne-motor control, superb coordination, and quick reac- tion time, as well as anaerobic power and general fi tness conditioning. Baseball and Soſt ball are not high energy–demand sports because they do not involve continuous activity. Professional baseball players begin spring training in February and soſt ball begins in May. T e regular season of professional baseball is April through September, followed by postseason play in October.. T e professional soſt ball season runs from late May through late August. Collegiate and youth baseball/soſt ball are spring sports in school, and some players continue throughout the summer in recreational leagues.
