So … what kind of games do people here play? I’m


going to call out some of the more common types of games and see how many hands I see … OK .. so, first- person shooters – an example might be Call of Duty. I can see a few hands. Next … simulation games – Minecraft is an example of this – anybody? … OK … sports gaming – any kind of virtual sports … on any platform … The last one I’m going to ask about is augmented reality games; Pokémon GO is the classic game here – yes … good. I know there are lots of others, but we will come back to different genres of games in the seminar …


D Explain that some fixed phrases used in lectures can help with predicting the type of information which follows.


Set students to read the phrases and the types of information, checking for any words they don’t understand.


Tell them that they will listen to some examples which will help them to match each phrase to the type of information which follows. Explain that a couple of the information types will be needed more than once. You could ask them to suggest matches before they listen, then listen to check their answers.

Play the sentences one at a time, allowing time for students to identify the type of information which follows. Verbally check the answer after each sentence, asking for the actual information as well as the information type.
