Argan anti-ageing active

BASF is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its argan programme in Southern Morocco. Since 2005, three ingredients from the programme have been commercialised: an organic and fair trade certified oil (Lipofructyl Argan), a skin tightening protein extract from oil cakes (Argatensyl), and an anti-ageing extract from the leaves of the argan tree that protects the skin from environmental factors (Arganyl). Now, BASF has added a further anti-ageing active to this list: Argassential. The new

ingredient improves the skin firmness and increases the volume of the lips and cheeks, restoring facial proportions. Clinical studies have demonstrated that in a concentration of 2 per cent Argassential has a plumping effect on the lips – with lip volume increasing by 8 per cent. The same dose also significantly improved the skin’s firmness and elasticity (both up 13 per cent) compared to a placebo. Argassential is Ecocert, Cosmos and IECIC approved, and China compliant.

Facial contours redefined

Inspired by the advances in regenerative medicine on bone tissue, Silab is offering Eternaline, a natural anti-ageing active ingredient capable of stimulating the synthesis of periostin, which slows down over time. This regenerative protein in the extracellular cutaneous matrix is strongly involved in maintaining homeostasis and tissue architecture.

Eternaline regenerates the structure of the collagen fibres damaged by ageing. It optimises the function of the matrix network and reinforces the mechanical properties of the dermis. Tested in vivo,

Eternaline consolidates the dermal tissue, while reducing general sagging at the base of the face. The skin is firmer and more toned, with fewer wrinkles. Rich in oligosaccharides of common shrubby everlasting (Helichrysum stoechas), Eternaline comes from a controlled, traceable supply chain, realised in partnership with producers on the Southern Atlantic coast of France. For a visibly younger face with redefined contours, Eternaline is recommended for all anti-ageing

regenerative day/night skin care products.

New mixing efficiency

Industrial Tomography Systems has announced the launch of the Mix-itometer. Designed to optimise industrial mixing processes, this powerful tool improves efficiency and delivers potential for cosmetic and personal care manufacturers.

The Mix-itometer uses volumetric imaging to present a cross sectional view of the entire process volume in real time. Data is captured by the system’s monitoring sensor which surveys

more than 200 locations within the container in order to measure average concentration as well as mixing index. This high level of accuracy and detail is unique to the Mix-itometer; providing a distinct advantage over standard technologies which rely on relatively limited point measurements. Its industrial PC-based interface also offers operators the option of even greater process visualisation by generating 3D images.

exciting plans that the board outlined for the future was too good to turn down. I am excited to be part of this leading industry name, with such a long reputation for the highest standards of expertise and integrity. With my extensive business and technical background and the strong leadership team, I look forward to contributing to future success.”

Immediate skin mattifying solution

Along with shininess, imperfections are a main concern faced by people with oily/combination skin. Acne scars, blackheads and enlarged pores can lead to an uneven and unattractive appearance that usually requires the application of makeup. In response to this market need, BB creams – combining multiple benefits in one product – were developed, first in Asia and quickly expanded throughout the world. Following this trend, Lipotec has presented a new study based on the application of a BB cream containing 2% Matmarine blue ingredient. Caucasian female volunteers with combination skin used the active cream on one side of the face, and the placebo on the other. Measurements of gloss of the skin were taken throughout the day. At the initial time of the study, immediately after the application, a 28.3% gloss reduction was observed, and 2 and 8 hours later, a prolonged effect of 25.2% and 14.9% respectively.

Such great immediate results along with

the all-day-long-effectiveness complete the good performance of Matmarine blue ingredient, previously demonstrated on Caucasian and Asian skin where an improvement of skin appearance was observed decreasing visible pores and shininess after just 14 days.
