NEWS DIGEST Superfood extracts available
Lipoid Kosmetik has launched a new series of botanical extracts with outstanding cosmetic properties. Two superfoods, Saskatoon Berry and Chia Seed, will begin the new series, highlighting extraordinary botanical power from North and South America.
Saskatoon Berries are a perfect example of a trending superfood. Historically, the Cree, one of the largest groups of Native Americans, took full advantage of the purple blue berry which is extremely rich in vitamins, minerals and flavonoids. The antioxidant properties have been proven in various studies and are superior to plenty of other fruits.
The new extracts from Saskatoon Berry are available in various solvent systems such as glycerol and propylene glycol.
Chia Seeds and their wide-ranging benefits have a long history of cultivation and use in South America. Already known to the ancient Maya and Aztec cultures, chia was used as a powerful source of energy, strength and health. The high level of essential fatty acids, amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins make chia a perfect ingredient for cosmetic applications. The new chia portfolio from Lipoid Kosmetik includes both extracts from chia in various solvent systems and preparations with chia seed oil.

New features and novel textures
In the world of trade shows there is always pressure to provide something new and different. One of the most successful features of last year’s in-cosmetics Asia event in Bangkok was the Interactive Formulation Lab. The personal care industry lends itself to such a ‘hands on’ experience, especially at a time when the sensory qualities of formulations are one of the most prominent aspects currently. At the Interactive Formulation Lab,
which Personal Care magazine is an official media partner for and will also be making an appearance at the in-cosmetics event in Paris, visitors have an amazing opportunity to really see first-hand the latest advances in personal
care technology and how the end-user will experience them too. Personal Care magazine will be providing something new that targets the sensory side of the cosmetics industry at the show too. We will be launching a new supplement, the Little Book of Novel Textures at the show in Paris, so make sure you pick up a copy either in April or at one of the many other shows we will be attending during the course of the year. In this new supplement you will find a wide range of innovative formulations to create personal care products that stand out from the crowd.

Boost for makeup coverage
Imerys has launched ImerCare Velluto, its latest development for superior coverage in pressed powder foundations. ImerCare Velluto is sourced in the French Pyrenees and derived from 100% natural magnesium silicate. It has been engineered using patented technology to obtain an innovative structure which enhances cohesion and imparts multiple optical and sensory properties to makeup powders.
In concealers and foundations, ImerCare
Velluto confers high coverage and imparts a silky, unctuous feel, an even skin look and a smooth satin finish. ImerCare Velluto’s high power of cohesion also improves compaction, rendering pressed powders more resilient to breakage. Unlike many mineral powders on the market, ImerCare Velluto can easily be used in wet processes and prevents cracking.
February 2016 PERSONAL CARE 5 Sun care site
re-launched Croda has re-launched
www.solaveil.com with new content and a fresher design. Fundamental in supporting their Solaveil Physical Shield campaign to educate consumers about the importance of UV protection, the new website has been designed to provide a seamless experience on multiple platforms and is available in five different languages. With research from Solaveil revealing that messages surrounding sun care and the risks of skin cancer are being lost among the young, while changeable weather patterns often ‘catch out’ older consumers,
www.solaveil.com offers advice about which SPF to use, explains the differences between UVA and UVB rays and also explores how inorganic and organic sunscreen filters work to protect the skin.
