IN-COSMETICS

New show areas featured in 2016 Paris show

In response to growing demand for direct interaction and hands-on knowledge transfer, in-cosmetics has announced that its 2016 event in Paris will feature two new show areas – a Formulation Lab and Sensory Bar.

The free-to-attend show from 12-14 April 2016 will give visitors hands-on experience and access to demonstration- style sessions in the form of its new Formulation Lab, for which Personal Care is an official Media Partner, and which was launched to great success during in-cosmetics Asia 2014. The Sensory Bar is a feature to be introduced for the first time at in-cosmetics in Paris 2016. Visitors will benefit from the expert advice on offer at the Formulation Lab – a purpose-built laboratory on the show floor complete with benches and a range of equipment. Exhibitors, including Evonik, Ashland and Lucas Meyer will host one- hour sessions, allowing finished product manufacturers to learn from the experts who are driving innovation in the sector. The new Sensory Bar will house a ‘try- out’ area where visitors can test innovative textures and new sensations. Formulations created using new fragrances, tastes and state-of-the-art pigments will be displayed, aiming to capture the imagination of manufacturers and facilitate the development of new relationships and consumer products.

As highlighted by the popularity of the

first Formulation Summit in November, which focused on textures and the sensorial aspects of functional ingredients, finished product manufacturers are keen for new ideas and guidance in this area and the new interactive features of in-cosmetics in Paris will aid their advances in product formulation.

Cathy Laporte, event director, said:

“We are looking forward to in-cosmetics in Paris 2016 with the launch of the highly popular Formulation Lab and the brand new Sensory Bar at the global show. We hope the new features and formulations to be showcased at the Paris show next year will kick start some fantastic new product innovation and inspire our visitors.”

Workshop programme At the show in April, there will be a wealth of education and training opportunities available to help people navigate a range of technical and regulatory issues within the personal care industry. For instance, on the first day, Dr Nava Dayan will be chairing a session on the skin microbiome, which is a term used to describe the microbiota, microbial genomes and environmental interactions of the skin. The balance of the skin microbiome has a great influence on skin health and the needs of this area change according to the consumer’s age. The aim of this session is to share knowledge on the variability of the skin microbiome

between ages, body parts, health and disease and to draw a path for innovative product development utilising this knowledge.

On the second day Theresa Callaghan will be moderating a session on the claims development process. This workshop will tackle the potentially tricky area of EU Legislation and how it effects the various departments involved throughout the stages of a product’s development and will examine each of the testing types that can be undertaken in order to generate the information that provides the basis for creating claims.

There are many other sessions on offer, but it is important to book ahead to be sure of attendance. The full programme is available at: www.in-cosmetics.com/ Education/Workshops

Those interested in attending sessions

at the Formulation Lab must have their suitability checked, as only finished product manufacturers are eligible to take part. Benefits of attendance include direct access to technical experts for insight and advice, as well as seeing the latest innovations in formulation.

in-cosmetics awards At the show in Paris, there will be a range of awards to celebrate personal and technical achievement in the industry. The Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award is given to honour the development of a novel active or functional ingredient featured in the Innovation Zone that combines innovative science and product features in a way that demonstrates substantial benefits to manufacturers and to end-users when compared to existing ingredients.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is a celebration of professional accomplishments that have made a significant and lasting impact on the field of cosmetic science. Previous winners are Alain Khaiat in 2013 and Karl Lintner in 2010.

Brand new for 2016, the Sensory Award has been created for the launch of the new Sensory Bar. This award celebrates the most innovative developments in sensory and texture. The award is set to be judged at the 2016 show by a selection of industry experts.

The Green Ingredient Award is given to a raw material or ingredient that makes a significant environmental or social difference in the area of sustainability. The material needs to have been launched over a year
