How much work and development time goes into ensuring camera angles are dynamic, commentary is entertaining and crowd atmospheres feel authentic?
Dynamic camera angles, commentary and the overall atmosphere of the race field or stadium are what actually give the games a realistic feeling. Apart from modelling and rigging the actual races, most of the time is spent on the dynamic camera movement, adaptable environment development and motion dynamics.
As with any video content, a great director is required to produce great results. Localised commentary will bring more entertainment and engagement to the game. It is something that we are considering in the long term.
What role will the continual improvement of motion capture technology have on the future of virtual sports? What possibilities could mocap open up going forwards?
Motion capture has already opened up multiple possibilities in the betting industry. I would say that this is an indispensable part of the development process of any game that uses human models. As a result of technology improvements, we are bound to see more realistic and dynamic virtual sports games in the future.
NSoft's virtual sports are available across mobile, web and retail. Which formats are most popular and how do betting patterns differ between the three?
Since we started as a provider for retail, our most popular format is retail, with standalone terminals on the rise. In retail, players mostly choose traditional markets and often use the future bet feature to save on queue time inside the bet shop. Online mode offers a different
playing experience, so players often use special markets and schedules.
What types of statistics does NSoft present players with its virtual sports products? What balance do you try to strike with being informative without overwhelming the player?
Te key word here is balance, as you’ve already hinted in the question. We try to give players only basic statistics, which include statistics about a specific racer and the history of previous rounds. We have considered adding more rich statistics about each market, but we are currently reluctant to do it since it would probably overwhelm the player without the obvious benefit.
Te number of officially licensed virtual sports is on the rise. What are your thoughts on branded content? Are they more appealing than non-branded content? Is NSoft interested in going down this route?
We are aware of the trend but have not yet considered branded content for virtual sports, apart from localising racer names. However, we are open to the idea. We have successfully created branded content for our casino games. Te current analysis shows that players react more to branded content when choosing from an extensive list of games.
