As lotteries transition towards digital platforms with iLottery and omnichannel options, what's your view on how the lottery industry is handling data compared to casino and sportsbooks?

Being data-led is a fast track to success when it comes to player acquisition and retention. When transitioning from predominantly retail- based to expanding into digital, certain challenges present themselves with data that may not be as prevalent for casinos and sportsbooks.

Traditionally retail-based lotteries have little to no player data. Where retail casinos encourage account creation for exclusive offers and loyalty programs, this tends to not be the case when a player purchases lottery tickets in store. Terefore, whilst moving into iLottery opens a whole new world of product opportunities and ability to capture more information than ever before including favourite games, popular boards, jackpot amounts that drive most traffic etc, it is likely that there is limited player data to build the foundational journeys with.

Tis is where it is crucial that retail and digital teams work closely together, alongside their platform provider, to map out strategies on how best to initially acquire online players and effectively grow the digital side, ensuring players have a positive and cohesive experience across both channels.

We recognise there are regulatory obligations to capture various player data during registration, having worked with numerous regulators across international markets. However, it is important to find the sweet spot between the necessary data collection and a quick sign-up process, especially with lottery as these players are likely to find digital registration more cumbersome than that of casino or sports betting players. We’ve made strides in simplifying our registration flows and
