New York casino progress hindered Operator News
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has vetoed legislation that would have speeded up the timeline for casino projects in New York City, saying it would compromise fairness in the competitive bidding process. Governor Hochul said: “Changing the timeline would
likely have the impact of helping certain bidders and hurting others. I cannot support a bill that aims to change the rules in the middle of the process. As part of the process, applicants are required to work with local governments so that their projects fall within the respective zoning laws of the municipalities. Potential applicants have been continuously working toward ensuring that their projects are compliant.” Te bill, approved by legislators in June, wanted
proposals to be submitted by August 2024, even if local zoning and other approvals were not yet secured. Instead, Governor Huchul is sticking with the original timescale of June 27, 2025, with licenses expected to be awarded by end of year.
Te Bill’s sponsor State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr, was
nominated by the betting regulatory bodies in the states and the Federal District can have sites that may legally offer betting until the end of this year.
vociferous in criticising the veto: “My legislation was attempting to bring credibility to the current state of the downstate casino process, not to ‘alter the timeframe’ as stated in the governor’s veto message, since no codified timeframe to start accepting applications exists at all.”
New renderings for Vegas resort Legislation
LVXP has released new renderings for what would be the tallest resort in Las Vegas, complete with a 752-foot, 2,605-room hotel and condominium project with an 18,000-seat NBA-ready arena and a 6,000-seat theatre. With it being Las Vegas, it goes without saying that the project includes an expansive retail plaza, a state-of-the-art convention space and a destination casino. Located between the Sahara and
Fontainebleau Las Vegas, the renderings are a 20

Te brand name on the renderings, Galileo, is likely to change once investors had been secured. With huge media focus on the changes at the
old Tropicana which was demolished awaiting a new resort hosting baseball side Te A’s, LVXP believes having its own basketball team is the jewel in the crown for the project.
