How has the game been received by operators and players?


With any new game there’s a speck of worry – will they understand it, will it come across in the right way? Here, players immediately got it. Tese strategy-type games are different from anything we’ve done before but it gets tonnes of players, there’s all kinds of great activity on YouTube and Twitch, and they immediately understood the drama that the game brings – I could not be happier. It means that our mantra of pushing boundaries and doing new stuff that players will love is paying off.


How did you settle upon the name?


Well, originally the game was called ‘Greed’, and it was set in a Wall Street like environment because it really captures the essence of the game. I still think that’s a great name but when we decided to put the game inside of a blimp the game almost named itself. You will either get cash or you will crash!


The studio design is certainly 'off the wall'. Did you enjoy working on the studio design?

We could just have fun designing it based on how we think it looks inside. Design wise the game gives a nod to other gameshows in our portfolio such as the cityscapes from MONOPOLY and Crazy Time bonus world, but other than that we were able to give our creative minds free rein.


In a previous interview with G3, we went into some depth about the process for creating a new game where you explained how the concept is the core and everything gets built around it.


Te great credit for the beautiful studio goes to our design team, and I have to agree it’s absolutely beautiful and super fun. Te original idea, as I said before, was for the game to be based around Wall Street and so we played around with what had worked on popular crypto games – like a crash game that had a rocket flying and then exploding. In the end, we went with something modern and memorable. We’d already used a blimp in Monopoly, and it fit again here with the rise and fall and the game speed.


It was also quite enjoyable to work on because nobody really knows what the inside of a blimp looks like. With some studios it’s crucial to get that true-to-life feeling for players to really immerse themselves in the game, but here we didn’t have to be true to the actual inner workings of a blimp.


What is Cash or Crash's concept?


Te absolute central concept of the game is, in a way, greed. As I mentioned, we almost named the game after this. It is so easy to win small on this game, but most players will not be satisfied with a small win, they will continue to push it and push it and push it. But if they push too hard, they will eventually crash. I think the team did a great job in capturing that essence of the game.


What purpose does Cash or Crash serve?


It gives players decisions to make, and almost all of our game shows do not give the players decisions. We think decision-making is fun and there is a certain group of players that want more control over their game show experience. Te game changes character the higher up you move – there’s more at stake and it sets players on tenterhooks. So, the purpose it serves is bringing the fun of decision making to a game show. After all, why should Blackjack be the only game that has decisions?


Cash or Crash stands out for its decision- making element. Would you describe the title as a strategy or skill-based game?


I would describe it as a strategy game – giving the player the ability to control the outcome. Every player will have a little bit of a different
