Auburn, MA — PI (Physik Instrumente) has added a new integrated x/y stage to its compact high- speed positioning stage roster, all powered by ultrasonic piezo-linear motors. The patented motors provide smooth motion, high resolution and rapid step and settle response, while the self- clamping drive principle locks the platform in place without power, an advantage in applications where position stability and low power consump- tion are required.
The U-723 x/y stage provides 0.8 in. (20.3 mm) travel per axis, with a footprint of only 1.6 x 1.6 in. (42 x 42 mm). Its low profile of 0.83 in. (21 mm) and miniaturized design allows for easy inte- gration into tight spaces. In addition to high-reso- lution (10 nm linear encoders) it provides high- speed motion up to 7.9 in. (200 mm/sec) and rapid step/settle performance.
