AOI system, the technology was evolving rapidly. The company knew that it needed to choose a machine that would not be obsolete soon after purchase. After countless hours of re- search and multiple manufacturers’ demos, Profab purchased an FX-940 Ultra 3D AOI system from Nordson YESTECH. Only the most advanced 3D AOI
system would allow the company to stay ahead of its competitors, espe- cially if it wanted to offer customers quicker delivery and superior quali- ty. Nordson YESTECH was an easy choice. The FX-940 Ultra 3D AOI sys-
tem offers advanced technology for the inspection of solder defects, lead defects/lifted leads, component pres- ence and coplanarity of chips, BGAs and other height-sensitive devices. With its advanced fusion light-
ing and comprehensive inspection tools, including angled cameras, full- color digital image processing and both image- and rule-based algo- rithms, the FX-940 Ultra offers com- plete inspection coverage with excel- lent 2D and 3D detection. The FX-940 Ultra provides
high-powered inspection with: 12 MP/five-axis 3D NYTVISION tech- nology; complete 2D and 3D inspec- tion capabilities; one top-down and four side-view cameras; automatic programming tools that take less
than 30 minutes; high defect cover- age and low false failures; and SPC data collection and reporting. Since installation of Profab’s
new Nordson YESTECH FX-940 Ul- tra 3D AOI machine, throughput in its SMT department has increased significantly. Also, the QC depart- ment has gained trust in the reliabil- ity of the inspection results and can focus on more important tasks. “Profab Electronics is proud to
be a loyal customer of YESTECH,” asserts Levy. “Having owned three generations of YESTECH AOI equip- ment, we look forward to the contin- ued support and strong relationship between our companies.” “We at Nordson YESTECH value
our longstanding relationship with Profab,” says Troy Johnson, regional sales manager at Nordson YESTECH. “We are delighted that our ever-evolv- ing technology continues to propel Pro- fab to offer the highest-quality support and technological advantage to solve their customers’ challenges.” Contact: Nordson YESTECH,

The Advantages of Choosing a U.S.-Based Manufacturer

intellectual property (IP) rights and protections, stealing ideas, recreat- ing products and mass producing them, and then selling them right back to the original customer base. Manufacturers in the U.S. typically maintain strict IP rights and protec- tions, meaning that a specialized product cannot be copied and mass produced. Even when those property rights
protections are assumed, in countries where English is not the more promi- nent language, communication about these protections and what the manu- facturers can and cannot do presents difficult language barriers. Wording in contracts or negotiations can be con- fusing for all parties. Innovation is what allows com-
panies in the U.S. to be competitive, but an IP Commission Report found that stolen ideas, brands and inven- tions drain more than $300 billion from the U.S. economy. It is critical to understand that IP rights are ex- tremely difficult to protect overseas.
“American Made” is a powerful marketing tool. Just as investing and contributing to the local commu- nity compels many consumers to buy locally, buying a product made in the U.S. carries a deep sense of patriotic pride for many Americans. The “Made in the U.S.A” or “American Made” stamp can be a
powerful marketing tool for special- ized products. Purchasing a product manufactured domestically also con- tributes to providing permanent jobs and healthy economic growth in the U.S. Knowledge of well-maintained manufacturing and labor standards, as well as the quality of products found at home instills confidence in a consumer about a product manufac- tured in the U.S. When choosing a foreign manu-
facturer, companies run the risk of gambling not only with money, but also with ideas and innovation. There are many other risks associat- ed with choosing a manufacturer that is located far away and when problems arise, it often costs signifi- cant time and money to make the trip and correct issues.
