Albuquerque, NM — Samsung Elec- tronics has commissioned an Op- tomec Aerosol Jet 5X system for its printed electronics lab. World-class manufacturers value the Aerosol Jet’s ability to print conductors and dielectric materials on 3D sur- faces on many types of sub- strates. Electronics producers are now using the Aerosol Jet process to print RF intercon- nects, replace wirebonds in IC packaging, print antennas di- rectly onto electronics enclo- sures and create multilayer, miniature circuits — essential- ly eliminating the restrictive shapes of PCBs. These capabil- ities enable electronics design- ers to miniaturize products, as well as to change the form of the overall electronics package, allowing more organic and er- gonomic designs. 5X system supports five axes of coordinated motion with a 7.9 x 11.8 x 7.9 in. (200 x 300 x 200 mm) x, y, z print envelope and the ability to print features that range from 0.4 mil (10 µm) to millimeters. In addi- tion to the hardware and software of
the Aerosol Jet system, Optomec pro- vides two decades of materials and process research to match the per- formance and environmental re- quirements of the design to a proven production-ready process.
