Aspinity Enables 10x Less Power for Always-on Sensing
Pittsburgh, PA — Aspinity, a pioneer in analog neu- romorphic semiconductors, has launched its recon- figurable analog modular processor (RAMP) plat- form. RAMP is an ultra-low-power, analog sensing platform that overcomes the power and data han- dling challenges in battery operated, always-on sensing devices for consumer, smart home, Internet of Things (IoT), industrial, and other markets. The RAMP platform incorporates machine
learning into an analog processor that is revolution- ary in its ability to detect and classify events, such as voice, an alarm or a change in vibrational fre- quency or magnitude, from background noise before the data is digitized. By directly ana- lyzing raw analog sensor data for what is important to the application, the RAMP platform more efficiently partitions the always-on system’s power and data resources to eliminate the higher-power processing and transmission of irrelevant data. Compared with an older “digitize-
first” architecture where all sensor da- ta must be continuously digitized for event analysis, the RAMP-based “ana- lyze-first” approach brings more intel- ligence to the sensor edge, reducing the

will load the necessary parameters to make the DUT work properly. The PCBA may be subjected to a se- quence of signals and power supply voltages. Responses are monitored at specific points to ensure correct func- tionality. All testing is performed ac- cording to the customer test engi- neer’s specifications and procedures. FCT provides a pass/fail result
on finished PCBAs before they are shipped. The value for customers is verification that the PCBA will func- tion as desired, providing confidence that the final product will work as advertised when deployed. FCT can range from a simple
“red light/green light” type of testing to more sophisticated testing involving geospatial tracking and verification, multi-variant test output, test probe, and edge connector measurements, and/or programming verification. In addition to FCT and ICT, the
company can program firmware as desired with any required elements, including MAC addresses, IP ad- dresses or firmware upgrades through customer software program- ming updates. Salo concludes, “East/West Man -
u facturing Enterprises prides itself on quality and flexibility when working with customers, as well as attention to detail and outstanding workmanship. These are the key factors that our cus- tomers look for in a partner, and what keeps them coming back. We are hap- py to deliver.” Contact: East/West Manufactur-

power required by up to ten times and the volume of data handled by up to one hundred times for always- on applications, such as voice-first smart speakers and wearables/hearables, always-listening smart home security devices, and industrial vibration mon- itoring systems. Aspinity’s patented RAMP technology repli-
cates sophisticated digital processing tasks in com- pact, ultra-low power, analog circuitry which sup- ports event detection and classification from raw, unstructured analog sensor data. Leveraging the nonlinear characteristics of a small number of transistors, RAMP incorporates modular, parallel
and continuously operating analog blocks that mimic the brain’s efficiency. Each of these blocks is implemented in a much smaller and more efficient programmable footprint than traditional analog circuits. The RAMP platform supports many appli- cations by configuring the analog blocks for typical digital tasks such as signal analysis and compres- sion, as well as more complex tasks such as feature extraction, event detection, and classification.
