(a) Verbs change when we talk about the past, the present and the future. We call these ‘tenses’. Study the examples in English.
Example 1: Everyday I work. Example 2: Yesterday I worked. Example 3: I have worked in this school for three years.
Example 1 is a present tense. Example 2 is a past tense. Example 3 is a present perfect tense.
To speak about the past in German we use ‘das Perfekt’. This tense is formed in a similar way to Example 3, the present perfect tense.
(b) An example of 'das Perfekt' is used when Jutta talks about last weekend in the text Letztes Wochenende.
Ich bin zum Fuβballtraining gegangen. Am Samstag habe ich nicht viel gemacht.
Underline all the other verbs in the text that are in this tense. Compare your solution with your partner's and write them out in a list.
