Te following is a potted guide to the region.
Lyme Regis
Te climate is mild, the scenery breath-taking and the historic Cobb and harbour are iconic landmarks set against blue fossil- lined cliffs. Te town has year- round events, notably the August Regatta and the autumn beach Carnival. Take scenic or fishing boat trips, go rod fishing from the Cobb, or try watersports at Lyme Bay. Family attractions include the Aquarium, mini-golf, a Museum and Dinosaurland. Search the shore for fossils, the rock pools for crabs and dog whelks and the sea for mackerel. For indoor fun there are shows for all at the Marine Teatre and movies at the Art Deco style Regent Cinema.
Nearby villages include:
Chideock - the beach is great for boat excursions, fishing trips and whale/dolphin spotting. At 618 feet, the nearby Golden Cap is the highest viewing point in the area.
Charmouth - on the longest stretch of beach in Dorset, Chesil Beach.
Burton Bradstock - its beach and cliffs are part of the historic Jurassic Coast.
West Bay A wonderful seaside location with outstanding spacious beaches, set within the golden glow of the majestic sandstone cliffs and radiance of the Golden Cap. It is prefect for family holidays, coastal and countryside walks, fossil hunting, fishing and angling, scuba diving, paragliding, golfing, river boating and more. fishing for children at the Marina. Rowing boat hire is available and there’s a funfair during the school holidays.
Broadwindsor
A small inland village, home to the Broadwindsor Craft And Design Centre.

Beaminster
Te largest village in Dorset, the streets follow the line of the streams flowing into the River Brit tributaries. Tere is a market on Tursdays, and the famous Beaminster Fair is in September. Te museum, the 16th century Parnham House and some fine 17th century local houses are all worth a visit.
Melplash
Tis village hosts an annual agricultural show in August.
Salwayash A pretty village with excellent views of Marshwood Vale and Pilsdon Pen.
Bridport
Tis historic market town has a wide and vibrant mix of events, exhibitions and entertainment. It is
also a Gateway Town for the World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast and a Beacon Town for promoting the high quality and vast variety of local foods.
Markets are popular, including the:
Street Markets - every Wednesday and Saturday.
Farmers Market - the second Saturday of each month in the Arts Centre.
Vintage Market - at St Michael’s, the last Sunday of each month, March to October.
Other attractions include:
Bridport Museum - the exhibits bring to life the town’s colourful past.
Lyric Teatre - has popular entertainment.
Mangerton Mill - a working water mill and museum.

Viewing points are Eggardon Hill Fort and Pilsdon Pen, one of the highest points in Dorset at over 900 feet.
Loders
A delightful village with a Norman church and Manor House; built
on the former site of a Benedictine Monastery of cider brewing legend.
Puncknowle Picturesque, with stone cottages and trees in the middle of the village.
Portesham With the historical Portesham House, of the ‘Kiss me Hardy’ legend.
Abbotsbury Renowned for its Swannery and Sub-Tropical Gardens. In the village, Te Swan Inn serves excellent food and has a guest house.
Chesil Beach
18 miles of pebble from Portland to West Bay, mostly separated from the mainland by the 13 km Fleet Lagoon. It has been the venue for Te World Shore Angling Championships and many other major competitions. Along the beach, and heading inland, are many villages, hamlets and food pubs and inns to discover.
Hamm Beach On the eastern side of Chesil Beach facing into Portland Harbour, both beaches, and the lagoon, are good for viewing wildlife.
