nature, CARDINHAM WOODS has two hundred and fifty hectares of mixed scenic woodland, ideal for walking, cycling and horse-


riding. There are four way-marked trails, and miles of other tracks and paths, a woodland play area, an ability trail, a woodland cafe providing excellent refreshments, and car parking.

Minions


A former copper mining village with excellent amenities. Rich in both archaeological and ancient remains, including workings from the granite quarry and the Hurlers Stone Circle, where, legend has it, men were turned to stone for playing the Cornish game of hurling on the Sabbath. Te Cheesewring is a precariously balanced pile of large granite rocks on the pinnacle of Stowe’s Hill’.


Linkinhorne


Alongside the villages of St Clair and St Eve, this is where Captain Jack Clymo discovered a small vein of copper ore, and reputedly employed over four thousand men, women and children in his mines. Te St Melor’s parish and small Holy Well both date from the 15th Century.


Blisland Tis lovely village, north of Bodmin, has the only village green in Cornwall, edged by rugged moorland cottages and amenities, including an internet cafe and an award-winning pub. Te pretty Norman Church here was cited by the poet John Betjeman as being his favourite.


Te central town of Cornwall and home to the birthplace of William Hamley of the famous toy shop, St Petrocs Church the largest Parish Church in Cornwall, a prominent monument honouring General Walter Raleigh Gilbert, and statues and plaques commemorating other famous former locals. Beacon Nature Reserve is pleasantly situated and full of wildlife. Te popular Camel Trail starts in the town, and Bodmin Moor has Helman Tor and its magnificent views. Nearby are the National Trust houses and extensive gardens of Pencarrow and Lanhydrock, and the Eden Project.


For a DAY OUT, Bodmin has many attractions within walking distance of the local car parks. Places to go include the Duke of Cornish Regimental Museum and the Shire Hall, with its award winning Victorian Courtroom Experience. Tere is also the Town Museum, and the old Bodmin Jail is fascinating.

RAILWAY is just the ticket to discover the excitement and nostalgia of steam travel in 1950’s coaches. There are leisurely thirteen mile round trips through the countryside, on the route that links Cornwall’s County Towns to the main railway. If arriving by road, join the train at Bodmin General, and if arriving by rail there is a cross-platform interchange at Bodmin Parkway.
