ROSELAND PENINSULA


Philleigh Home to the tower of an ancient church.


Ruan Lanihorne Te hills and creek provide a haven for waders and waterfowl alike, and there is a gothic village church, dedicated to St Rumonus in 1321.


Veryan Famous for its mystical thatched Round Houses, this village sits close to the beaches of East and West Portholland, Carne and Pendower.


Portloe With pretty cottages around the harbour and the valley, this is a typical Cornish fishing village.


St Just in Roseland Houses a picturesque church, resting amid magnificent gardens.


St Mawes Sheltered by St Mawes Castle, this village enjoys a mild climate throughout the year and is the principal village of the Roseland Peninsula.

Gorran Haven Tis picturesque village with sheltered anchorage and lovely sandy beach is a favourite for families and visiting sailors, it is said to be the gateway to the Roseland Peninsula. Fishing is an important facet of the local economy and there is entertainment for all on the water and shore throughout the season.


Tregony Another renowned gateway to the Roseland Peninsula, it is home to the site of a Roman Castle known as Treg-ney.


Gorran Haven


Portscatho Nestled in a sheltered cove in the corner of Gerrans Bay, this is an active fishing village and its extensive sandy beaches are popular with families.


Gerrans village Above Portscatho, the village is seated on the top of the hill and has a medieval spire that has acted as a landmark to generations of local sailors.


Nearby Beaches include:


Porthbeor Beach - accessed by a coastal path, a mile south west of Bohortha.


Towan Beach - a wide expense of sand is available at low tide.


Porthcurnick Beach - only a short walk from Portscatho, with wonderful views across to Nare Head.


Pendower Beach - backed by Marram grass and covered dunes, with a small stream adding to the idyllic, unspoilt feel of this stretch of the Roseland coast.


Places to Visit on the Roseland Peninsula include:


Roundhouses, Veryan - built in the early 19th Century to guard the village from evil, having no corners in which the devil could hide.


St Mawes Castle - situated on the water’s edge, with the finest views of Falmouth.


Caerhayes Castle Garden - a 60 acre woodland garden noted for its floral beauty.


St Just-in-Roseland Church - set on the water’s edge amongst sub-tropical trees and shrubs. A path leads from the Church to the 2 mile coastal path towards St Mawes.


Turnaware Bar and Tolverne - Famous as embarkation points for the D-Day landings.


St Anthony Lighthouse - guards the entrance to the Carrick Roads and the dangerous Manacles rocks. Te light house is often open for visitors during the summer.


St Anthony Battery - used for Army training in both World Wars.


Gorran Haven - from the village there is easy access to the coastal path to Vault Beach and on to Porthluney or Caerhays Beach and Caerhays Castle, then to Dodman Point with its Iron Fort.
