There is a choice of marinas and moorings, repair yards, chandlers etc. For fun on the water there is leisure-craft to hire, organised fishing trips, boat excursions and sailing/dingy clubs that welcome visitors. There are shops galore and for the foodies, Plymouth has eateries varying from Michelin starred to Fish2Fork.

From the historic Barbican there is a water taxi to the Mountbatten Sailing Centre and Mountbatten Tower plus yacht basins in the Turnchapel area. A ferry service operates to the iconic Royal William Yard noted for restaurants, galleries and events, also to Cawsands in Southeast Cornwall. Plymouth Hoe has a War Memorial,
statues including that of Sir Francis Drake, a Peace Garden and the iconic Smeaton’s Tower with panorama. Events include the British Championship Firework Competition, MTV Crashes, fun fairs, marathons, festivals and more. On the Hoe waterfront there is a range of cafes and restaurants with many being alfresco, the Tinside Lido and wild swimming from the small beach or rocks. Armada Way is the city’s central boulevard and piazza being the venue for various events and markets, like the hugely popular Food Fest and the Lord Mayors Day.
