Cobh Ramblers FC held its 2017 Awards Night at
the Clubhouse
last weekend – where the club honoured the Rams’ heroes of the past twelve months. Stephen Henderson’s
men finished runners-up in the SSE Airtricity First Division this year, in what was a successful season for the club. Last Friday night, players from the Senior Team, along with members of the Under
15, 17 and 19 sides, were recognised at
the awards
ceremony. The overall Player of
the Year accolade went to goalkeeper Paul Hunt, while the Young Player of the Year was awarded to teenage defender James McSweeney. Both players were very influential in the East Cork side’s second place finish in the First Division, where they just missed out on promotion, behind Waterford FC. David Hurley was
named the U19’s Player of the Year. The mid- fielder was a key player in
the side that topped
the Southern Division this year. Jaze Kabia, son
of ex-Rams striker Jason, won the U17 Player of the Year accolade and Sam O’ Driscoll was named U15 Player of
the Year.
2017 was the inaugural year of the U15 side, and they recently appointed a new manager in Kevin Ronayne. A decade on from their
triumph, a special tribute was paid to the First Divi- sion champions of 2007. The squad were given a Special Merit Award, on the tenth anniversary of their title win. Elsewhere on the night, a Special Recognition Award was given to Ita Burns and the Clubman of the Year went to Josh Kelly.
