Midleton Pet Owners Spending Up To €120 On Pet Christmas Presents

Midleton’s pet owners

are spending up to €120 on Christmas presents for their pets with the top selling presents including Christmas dog jumpers, yuletide scented cat litter, cat caves and cat scratch- ing trees, according to pet retailer Maxi Zoo. Maxi Zoo has an-

nounced this year’s list of the Top 10 selling Christ- mas presents for pets based on the spending patterns of pet owners who have visited the store at Midleton Retail Park over the past fortnight. “Local dog and cat

owners are really spoiling their pets this Christmas. The Top 10 selling pre- sents range in price from €10 to €120 with the av- erage spend being some- where around €35,” said

Darren Spoonley, Head of Sales and Marketing at Maxi Zoo Ireland. “Cats are the real win-

ners this Christmas. Our cat caves and cat scratch- ing trees are flying off the shelves and our Christ- mas scented cat

litter is

a familiar sight in most shopping baskets,” he added. “There is big demand

for products for smaller dogs, reflecting the in- creasing number people choosing to keep small- er dogs as pets. The best-selling product

on

the Top 10 is a vintage bed which costs €40. It is plush and warm and its raised edges provide real comfort for dogs,” Dar- ren continued. Fashion conscious dog owners are snapping up

Red Rudolf Jumpers for their pets which start at €13, Christmas selection boxes (€10) which

in-

clude a selection of treats to pamper pooches and a Santa Meerkat shaped toy (€10) that is made of sturdy fabric to provide plenty of chewing fun. Young

children with

an interest in fish-keep- ing have put the 30 litre Despicable Me Aquar- ium (€70) at

A donation box will also be located in store up to December 17th

East Cork Based Sile Walsh Welcomes Book On Looking After Yourself

SILE Walsh Cork

based Coach refuses to believe that it is self- ish to look after your- self, and believes that it’s selfish not too! She wrote the book about it!

“It’s selfish to look after

myself ” is a statement Sile Walsh Cork based coach hears far too often when working with those who ex- perience

Co-dependency.

In her new book ‘Co-De- pendency An Authentic Journey’ her second in the book series Sile works to- wards supporting people in seeing how co-depend- ency may be experienced in their own life and how to move towards recovery, by engaging in a number of practical practices. Sile has experienced

co-dependency personal- ly, second with loved ones who are

clients. Through the book

and directly in her private coaching practice

co-dependent with

she uncovers some com- monalties

and shares effective strat- egies for breaking free of the

limiting practice hear relationship that co-depend-

ents experience. Sile says “ most people about

co-depend-

ency when someone they care about seeks support for addiction or mental ill health. Its often uncovered or labelled during a cri- sis or challenge, however the crisis or challenge is usually the opportunity to highlight it, rather than the cause of it. Which means it is affecting people, who ha- ven’t even identified what it is and have no idea what to do with it” Sile goes on to

explain that because

co-dependency is often highlighted in crisis that many of the business lead- ers she worked with were unaware that the limita- tions they were experienc- ing were actually related to co-dependency.

Sile goes on to share she observed

how the understanding of co-dependency and being kind or loving is blurred as most people want to help others. However she summed it up as “ Co-de- pendency is when we put others needs, over our own at a direct cost to us, as our usual or common way of doing things” With socie- ty becoming more aware of mental health, Sile be- lieves we need to look at how we manage ourselves, feelings, challenges and re- lationships not just during difficult times but during good times. Sile’s motto on her web-

site is “Be Your Best Self ” and she has been facilitat- ing change in individuals and organisations for over 6 years within Cork and internationally. Sile holds qualifications in coaching psychology and is current- ly undergoing her MSc in personal and manage- ment coaching from UCC

, hoping that her expe- rience

co-dependency with peple from a broad range

of working with of

backgrounds will support a change in culture. “One that supports interdepend- ence more effectively, so people, couples and fami- lies can thrive rather than get caught in the co-de- pendent

dy-

namics” C o- De - pendency An A ut he nt ic Journey will be available

from

Amazon by December 13th with an on-line live launch this coming Jan- uary for

her

international based

ership. Not forgetting

read- her

roots though; she will offi- cially launch it locally in Cork

Ardmore Christmas Day Swim

The countdown re-

ally has begun with just under two weeks to go! Nothing beats the

ex-

citement of seeing what Santa brought and then cooling down with a Christmas swim! The aim of the swim

each year is to raise some much needed funds for our local Lifeboat Sta- tions. The R.N.L.I is a voluntary run charity that

saves lives at sea

every day of the year, no matter what

the condi-

tions may be. They are independent of the Gov- ernment

and strongly

need our support and we are very proud that we are in out twentieth year of supporting this won- derful charity. Each year we

have eastcorkjournal great supporters, many

of whom gather sponsor- ship before the swim and others who simply make a donation, whether they take part or not. We also have

supporters who

come along and spur on the rest of us while we are making a dash to splash! Every little helps. We have a Facebook

page, find us at Ardmore Christmas Day Swim and give us a like! Infor- mation is also available on there as to how you can obtain your sponsor- ship card. The swim will take place at 12:15p.m on Ardmore Beach with some nice hot refresh- ments afterwards. We are always grateful

as ever to the continuous support we receive.
