Thousands Of Christmas Lights Shine The Way For Mercy Hospital Cancer Fund

by DENISE FITZGERALD The cold rain on Satur-

day last did not deter fam- ilies coming from all over the area for the switch- ing on of the Christmas Lights at the home of Pad and Margaret Carey in

Blackwater Heights. Um- brellas were up, raincoats were worn, but the smiles were bright on the faces of children as they wandered around the gardens admir- ing the Crib, Reindeers, Snow, Elves and thousands of lights in every colour. The

doors of num-

ber 25 were thrown wide open, and people were in- vited inside for a hot cup- pa and refreshments, or just to sit for a little while and chat. Music was sup- plied by Comhaltas who sat happily on the stairs and played for everyone. Pad and Margaret have

been lighting their home for many years, and have raised over €14,000 to date for a charity which is very close to their hearts, Mercy Hospital Cancer Fund. Speaking brief- ly with The East Cork Journal Pad said he starts planning for next Christ-

mas the very minute the lights come down this year. “I try to add a little more every year”, he said, “but I couldn’t do it all without the help and support of Margaret”. Deirdre Finn, Mercy

Hospital Cancer Fund, brought her young daugh-

ter with her to admire the spectacle and said “We are delighted to be here” she said, and cannot thank Pad and Margaret enough for all their work for a cause which affects most families in one way or an- other”. The lights at 25 Black-

water Heights will be shin- ing every night from 6pm to 9pm and they would be delighted if you would come along and make any donation which you can afford. It wouldn’t be Christ- mas without Pad Carey’s Lights!
