Cork Based Homelessness Charity O’Connell Court Receives €500 Donation From Aldi Ireland
Cork-based O’Connell
Court has been nominated by FoodCloud to receive a €500 donation from Aldi to help the charity support its core services this Christ- mas. O’Connell Court was selected by FoodCloud to receive the Aldi donation in recognition of the es- sential services it provides during the Christmas sea- son.
O’Connell Court is one
of several charities and community organisations in Cork that receives reg- ular surplus consumable food donations from their local Aldi stores through FoodCloud, the not-for- profit social enterprise founded by Iseult Ward and Aoibheann O’Brien. Aldi has donated over 1,000,000 meals to char- ities through FoodCloud since the partnership be-
gan in 2014, providing over 510 tonnes of con- sumable food to some 260 local charities. This equates to a saving of over €1.5 million for the charity partners involved. Commenting, Finbar McCarthy, Aldi’s Group Buying Director said, “We have continued to donate surplus food to O’Connell Court through our part- nership with FoodCloud during 2017. These food donations enable
it to
focus its resources on its core services of providing shelter for the homeless. We are delighted to award them an additional €500 in Aldi vouchers that will further help them deliv- er their vital services this Christmas.” Commenting Rory
O’Meara of O’Connell Court said, “We can’t
thank Aldi and FoodCloud enough. The regular do- nations of surplus food we receive allow us to use our budget for other essentials. This additional €500 do- nation helps us further and will enable us reach out to and assist more and more people this Christmas.” Commenting, Food-
Cloud co-founder and CEO Iseult Ward said, “FoodCloud has connect- ed 130 Aldi stores across the country with over 260 charities, enabling the redistribution of tonnes of consumable food and tackling food waste and food poverty. Of the many worthwhile charities that we work with, O’Connell Court’s services are crucial to the local community. We are delighted to nom- inate the for the additional Aldi donation.”
