sport@eastcorkjournal.ie East Cork Imokilly GAA year. by SHANE SUPPLE Imokilly held their An-

nual Convention in Castle- lyons GAA Club on Wed 6th

Dec last at 7.30, to a

large crowd in attendance. Con Lawlor on behalf of the Castlelyons GAA Club welcomed everyone to Castlelyons Hall for the Imokilly AGM. With that, Chairman

Richard Fitzgerald wel- comed everyone

to the

meeting and officially opened the meeting. First order of business was our Minutes from our previous AGM held in Gortroe Hall last year, by Secretary Mi- chael O Brien. Once the minutes were deemed in order he then proceeded to give his Secretaries report for the year. This was followed by the

Treasurer’s report by Ki- eran McGann who gave a detailed breakdown of the figures for the past year. The PRO Shane Supple gave a brief report of PR activities during the year and thanked all clubs and members of the Press and Media who worked so well with the Board during the

Our outgoing Chair- man Richard Fitzgerald then gave his Chairman’s address in which he wel- comed everyone

to the

meeting and thanked every one for their support dur- ing his Term in office. Once he had conclud- presentatin

County Board spoke brief- ly about how well Imok- illy had done in the year gone by and he thanked everyone for the support he had received during his term in office on the Coun- ty Board and he wished all new board members in Imokilly every success going forward.A presenta- tion was then made to Ger Lane by Richard Fitzger- ald on behalf of Imokilly thanking him for his hard work. And the final act of the evening was a presenta- tion to Richard from our Secretary Michael O Brien to thank him for his hard work on the board with the last number of years. When official proceedings had finished every one had tea and sandwiches and a social chat before heading home.

HISTORY MADE AS TRACEY KENNEDY

BECOMES CORK COUNTY BOARD CHAIRPERSON Sunday December 10th

saw history being made as our own Tracey Kenne- dy assumed the office of Cathaoirleach, Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Chontae

Coiste Chorcaí, suc-

ceeding Bride Rovers’ man Ger Lane after his success- ful three year term came to an end. For many, Tracey’s gender is the story, as she becomes the first female to hold this prestigious title, and it is certainly worth acknowledging the shatter- ing of this particular glass ceiling. For us in Killeagh, however, it is Tracey’s her-

itage and roots that is the story – we have proudly watched her rise from her early involvement with the Juvenile Club in Killeagh to becoming secretary of our adult club and subse- quent officerships at both East Cork Board and Cork County Board. For the past six years she has served as PRO and Vice-Chairper- son, making her very ex- perienced in understand- ing the inner workings of “The Board”. All in Kil- leagh wish Tracey the very best in her new position, and we are certain she will fulfil her responsibilities to the highest standards. Her family and supporters, in- cluding mother Helen and our seasoned delegates Sean Murphy and Junior Scully, are rightly thrilled at

Tracey’s remarkable journey, and this particular

leg of it just starting now. What would Danno and Paddy make of it all? Convention also saw the

draws made for the Inter- mediate and Senior Hurl- ing and Football Cham- pionships 2018. Killeagh senior hurlers will reprise their gargantuan struggle of 2017 against Douglas, we’ll be hoping for a sweet one-point

victory once

again! Premier

time. Sarsfields finished stronger

closing

quarter on a bitterly cold and sometimes wet Páirc Ui Rinn on Friday evening last to clinch the title. For the first 48 minutes it was a very even game, with both teams having spells of dominance. The first five minutes saw Sars start quickly, as Jack O’Con- nor fired over two points and Colin Walsh made an astonishing save from an Aaron Myers piledriv- er. Killian Treacy got our first point on 8 minutes, and in this quarter Sars struck some poor wides. On 14 minutes, a fantas- tic catch, solo and lay-off from Eoghan Keniry set up Dan Landers and he hit an unstoppable shot to the Sars net, giving us a 1-1 to 0-2 lead. Crucially, Sars equalised within two minutes, from O’Connor and a Myers free. Eoghan

almost repeated Dan’s feat within three minutes but his shot after another blis- tering run fizzed wide with the ‘keeper beaten. Aaron Myers added two frees for Sars while Eoghan pointed a free on 18 minutes and Dan caught and pointed on 22. This, however, was to be our final score of the half as the profligacy in front of goals became our problem, levelling off the wide count at 6 each at half-time. Crucially, Luke Hackett

pointed on the

half-time whistle to give Sars a 0-7 to 1-3 lead. He struck immediately after the restart and by 40 min- utes Sars led by 0-12 to 1-5. Our scores had come from an excellent Gary Leahy catch and point and a second free from Eoghan. We then domi- nated the next few minutes with points from Killian Treacy and two from Dan Landers (assist again from

Eoghan and then Kevin Murphy who had an ex- cellent game throughout). With 48 minutes on the clock, it appeared as if we were headed for a grand- stand finish. An injury to Eoghan Keniry restricted his impact for the remain- der of the game as he moved to full-forward, and Sars began to dominate in all lines. Between the 49th

and 57th scored minute Sars six unanswered

points, five from play, with Luke Hackett’s fourth and Jack O’Connor’s triple whammy on 51, 52 and 53 minutes putting paid to our efforts. The quality of the shooting in this period (no wides) was remarkable given the conditions and temperature at the time. Aaron Myers finished off the job with three further points, two from frees and one from play. In the end Sarsfields finished deserv- ing winners – we had given
