DAY 1: Modern Face, Historic Heart Founded in 1749, Halifax is both historic and hip, and well worth spending an extra day or two before embarking on your expedition with MS Fram.

DAY 2: Past is Present We sail towards the island of Cape Breton and the historic port of Louisbourg.

DAY 3: Wind and Waves Twelve islands comprise the 100 km long archipelago called Îles de la Madeleine. Today’s locals are called Madelinots, and they identify themselves as Acadians and Québécois. Others are descendants of survivors from more than 400 shipwrecks on the islands.

DAY 4: UNESCO Site Scenic Bonne Bay is among Newfoundland’s most beautiful bays and divides Gros Morne National Park; a combination of protected areas and small coastal communities. The Tablelands Mountains here, flat-topped rock outcroppings

usually found deep in the earth’s mantle, are unique, and the are the reason the park was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

DAY 5: 16th Century Basque Whaling Red Bay is a modern Labrador coastal town with rich culture and history. A Basque whaling centre since the 1500s, at its peak the settle- ment had some 2,500 whalers on 50 ships from France and Spain, who came to hunt right and bowhead whales for blubber.

DAY 6: Icebergs and Vikings We arrive at St. Anthony, where the surround- ing sea is full of icebergs. Interested in Viking history? Visit L’Anse aux Meadows, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Vikings built a camp more than 1,000 years ago.

DAY 7: History and Nature Battle Harbour is a nature lover’s paradise where you can encounter whales, dolphins, seabirds, Arctic foxes, icebergs and spectacular scenery.

DAY 8-11: North Atlantic We leave Labrador and Canada and set our course for Iceland. Enjoy a relaxing day at sea with a good book, or join a fascinating lecture to gain more insight about this amazing region.

DAY 12: Westfords of Iceland We reach western Iceland, called “The Saga- land” because of its remarkable volcanic landscape and deep fords.

DAY 13: Thousand Islands The idyllic town of Stykkishólmur is surrounded by so many islands that they can’t be counted.

DAY 14: Farewell Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital city, and the end of our expedition. Explore mythical Iceland before flying home.
