The Northwest Passage - In the Wake of Great Explorers
DAY 1: Flying North Flight from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq, where we board MS Fram.
DAY 2: Modern and Ancient Watch for whales en route to Sisimiut, a modern settlement with ancient traditions, and where the Gjøa Expedition obtained dogs and gear on their way to the Northwest Passage.
DAY 3: Birth of Icebergs Ilulissat is in Ilulissat Iceford, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Witness the birth of icebergs, marvel at how the ice changes colour in the Midnight Sun, hear the ice crack and rumble.
DAY 4-5: Davis Strait We cross Davis Strait, named for English explorer John Davis who led three expeditions in the late 1500s looking for the Northwest Passage.
DAY 6: Northern Jewel Explorer Sir John Ross named Pond Inlet

in 1818 after John Pond, a renowned British astronomer. Today this picturesque hamlet is a traditional Inuit community near the eastern entrance to the Northwest Passage.
DAY 7: Wildlife Encounters Devon Island is the largest uninhabited island on Earth and is rich in wildlife. We may see walrus, beluga, narwhal and polar bears.
DAY 8: Historic Stop We stop at Beechy Island, which is closely linked to the exploration history of the Northwest Passage.
DAY 9: Currents and Icebergs The Bellot Strait is a narrow passage with fierce currents and the added navigational challenge of ice in the water.
DAY 10: Conningham Bay We cross Victoria Strait and arrive at Conning- ham Bay, a hotspot for belugas and polar bears.
DAY 11: James Ross Strait We sail through James Ross Strait, named after
British explorer James Clark Ross. Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen also sailed here on the Gjøa Expedition.
DAY 12: Heart of the Northwest Passage Gjøa Haven is popular with Arctic history fans. Amundsen and his men spent two years at Gjøa Haven collecting scientific data, hunting caribou and exploring the area.
DAY 13: “Good Fishing Place” Cambridge Bay means a ‘good fishing place’ in Inuinnaqtun, and where the expedition ends. Fly to Montréal.
DAY 14: City of Saints Fly home from Montréal.
We offer one westbound and one eastbound expedition. The eastbound journey has a reverse itinerary, and includes an overnight stay in Montréal as well.
