We will cross Sassenford and see the mighty mountain Tempel guarding the entrance to the Tempelford before we arrive for the highlight of this tour: the Nordenskiöld gla- cier and its powerful blue walls of ice. It crackles and bangs and, if we are lucky, may calve impres- sively for the photographers on board. Lunch from the barbecue will be served while enjoying the incredible view. After lunch, we will dock at the harbour in Pyramiden, where a Russian guide awaits you with a rifle on his shoulder in case a polar bear turns up. Evening Boat Trip to Yoldiabukta and The Wahlenberg Glacier When we arrive at the active glacier, hot supper from the barbeque will be served while we observe calving from the glacier front. This is a unique opportunity to experience a surging glacier with massive pieces of ice breaking off. SUMMER: 20.05.-30.09.2017 The Arctic summer starts in mid-May with endless hours of Midnight Sun, which lights the nights until late August. These light days provide the perfect back-drop for exciting boat trips, vis- iting the Fuglefella bird cliffs or long-deserted settlements. The first birds begin to arrive in May for the nesting period. Later when the migratory birds leave, the vibrant green mountainsides begin to take on autumn colours.
Dog Sledding on Foxfonna On this tour you will be picked up from your accommodation in Longyearbyen and driven by car into the Advent Valley. On our way, we will stop by the dog yard in Bolterdalen where we will collect the huskies that will pull your sleds. We then continue by car up the spectacular road, which passes Mine 7. Once we reach the top, you harness the dogs with help from the guide. After a briefing on dog sledding you will mush out, up across Foxfonna, with fantastic snow and views over mountains, fords and valleys – from 600 metres above sea level! The guide will drive in front with two participants on his sled. They will swap between mushing and travelling as passen- gers. Behind, the other sleds will be shared with two guests per sled. Catamaran to Barentsburg While cruising, you have the opportunity to gaze at the scenic landscape we sail through. On our way to Grumant, you can observe the stunning wildlife display, with the thousands of birds gathered on the rocks. While astonished by the orchestra of birds, we continue towards Barentsburg, the Russian capital of Svalbard, where the statue of Lenin still looks down on you. During the trip, the onboard guide will describe the scenery and enlighten you in great detail about Barentsburg – all to ensure that you arrive the city well prepared to explore the area. After 1h 30min with a local guide in Barents- burg, it’s time to return back to Longyearbyen. This part of the trip can be observed either from the deck on the outside of the boat, or if you prefer, from inside the vessel’s warm and cosy cabin, surrounded with panoramic win- dows.
