MS SPITSBERGEN Departure: 18 August 2018

The Ultimate Fjord Expedition to Iceland and Greenland

Explore the biggest fjord system in the world, encounter Arctic wildlife, and discover Jan Mayen, one of the most isolated islands on earth.

1

DAY 1: Reykjavik Reykjavik is a vibrant city close to glaciers, waterfalls, geysers and mountains. Explore Iceland’s capital before boarding MS Spitsbergen in the afternoon.

DAY 2: Ísaförður, Iceland Ísaförður is the largest town in the Westfords. See fine examples of timber houses built by wealthy foreign traders in the 18th century. Choose optional excursions suited to every level of fitness.

DAY 3-6: Scoresbysund, Greenland Ittoqqortoormiit is the most isolated town in Greenland and the gateway to the world’s larg- est and deepest multi-branched ford system. Exploring the Scoresbysund ford system, we

will attempt to land where no humans have likely ever been! At Viking Bay, you can visit a large glacier.

At Qupaulakajik, it is possible to find fossils over 200 million years old. The mountains here rise straight out of iceberg-strewn fords to altitudes surpassing 2,500 metres. Watch for polar bears wherever you see ice.

DAY 7: Jan Mayen The Norwegian island of Jan Mayen is one of the world’s most isolated places and home to the northernmost active volcano on earth. Vis- its to Jan Mayen are extremely rare, especially by tourists, and we will attempt to land on this most exotic Arctic island.

DAY 8: At Sea A day at sea is great for relaxing, sorting photos and enjoying lectures.

DAY 9: The Trollford and Lofoten Islands Reaching the Norwegian mainland, we sail through narrow Raftsund and into the even narrower Trollford. We spend the afternoon in Lofoten, known for excellent fishing and natural beauty.

DAY 10: Torghatten Today we pass the famous landmark of Torghatten along Norway’s Helgeland coast. You get front-row seats to view this mountain with a huge hole in the middle.
