AUTUMN: 01.10.-30.11.2017 During autumn the days grow shorter, and the magical blue light returns to the archipelago. With the return of the nights, you can enjoy the glowing moonlight and the onset of the Arctic winter. The darker hours also present the op- portunity to enjoy the amazing natural wonder that is the Northern Lights, particularly after October 26 when the sun disappears under the horizon for the last time. The cultural life in Longyearbyen blossoms in the autumn months with highlights including the world’s northern- most blues festival in October.
Life of a Miner On this tour you will get to experience the his- tory of Longyearbyen. Learn how this company town has grown into its modern form - from the early 20th century to the late 1960’s, when Mine 3 was opened. Arriving at Mine 3, you will change into miners’ clothes, put on a helmet and sign yourself in, just like the miners did when starting their day. The equipment is still here, just waiting for the next shift to start. Coal wagons are ready to transport workers deep into the mine. Drills and shovels lean against the walls. On the tour, we present vivid stories of the everyday life of the miners. As you approach the entrance, light from the outside fades away and you can imagine what it was like to spend the whole day in the pitch-black. Once our shift is over, we return to the dressing room, sign ourselves out and change back into our own clothes leaving the black dust behind. FROM£ 66pp* *The price includes a guided tour in a mine incl. clothing and necessary safety equipment, trans- port to/from hotel.
