Expedition Across the Arctic Sea


Discover the crown of Arctic Norway; Svalbard. Experience the North Cape and isolated Bjørnøya as well as the famed Lofoten Islands.

DAY 1: Gateway to the Fjords Historic Bergen is famous for its charm and ambience. Wander the scenic streets before starting your northbound expedition.


DAY 2: Mountains and Waterfalls The Sunnford area has high mountains and beautiful waterfalls. We sail deep into the Dalsford and visit the idyllic village of Bygstad.


DAY 3: Island Fishing Village First settled in the 1400s, the abandoned fishing village Gripholmen is now a summer holiday retreat.


DAY 4: Famous Landmark See “Torghatten” - the mountain with a mas- sive hole in the middle along the Helgeland Coast. Come ashore, explore the island and walk through the hole.


DAY 5: Crossing the Arctic Circle Visit Træna with more than 1000 islets and less than 500 inhabitants. We may also go ashore the island Vikingen on the actual border of the Arctic Circle.


DAY 6: Beautiful Lofoten Wander the charming fishing village of Henningsvær in the Lofoten Islands. We later

sail through Raftsundet strait and enter the magnificent Trollford.


DAY 7: Arctic Paradise Visit Sommarøy, a group of small islands with white, sandy beaches and a lively fishing community. Go hiking, kayaking or visit nearby Tromsø.


DAY 8: Northernmost Point in Europe North Cape has long been the destination of adventurers. Standing at the edge of mainland Europe and gazing out at the infinite Arctic horizon is a powerful experience.


DAY 9: Bjørnøya – Millions of Birds The remote island of Bjørnøya (Bear Island) in the Arctic Ocean has nine inhabitants and the largest concentration of sea birds in the North- ern Hemisphere. Arctic water meets warm Gulf Stream currents here, forming optimal feeding grounds.


DAY 10: Arctic Wilderness South Spitsbergen National Park is part of Hurtigruten’s history. The old Hurtigruten steamer D/S Lyngen stopped here to serve trap- pers. See the majestic mountains Hornsund- tinden and Bautaen, which resembles a giant Viking sword.


DAY 11: At 78º 55’ N Kongsforden is one of the most beautiful ford regions in Spitsbergen. We visit the former mining settlement of Ny-Ålesund and sail in the Isford on our way to Longyearbyen.


DAY 12: Flying South We arrive Longyearbyen for the night flight back to Oslo.
