Franchise Focus

searching local competitors online and considering the following questions:

• Do they have a website? If so, what is it like? How does it portray their business?

• What other online presence do they have? For example, do they advertise on industry specific websites?

• Ask yourself: where would you market your business within the territory? Visit these places to see whose marketing materials are present

• Are those materials eye-catching? Are they targeted to their ideal client?

I believe the above exercise is vital for all franchisees, as not only will it increase sector knowledge, but it will also form part of the franchisee’s business plan

With most businesses, once a commitment is made, a franchisee will most likely have an exclusive territory. Franchisees must use their knowledge of the territory and the franchisor’s expertise to create a thorough marketing and sales strategy. To do this, consider the following:

• Are there local networking events? These are useful for meeting like- minded individuals, establishing a wide range of contacts and introducing new businesses

• Establish your brand. There are many ways to do this, such as visiting local businesses to make introductions, sending out targeted marketing material and advertising in local magazines and papers.

“At Availl, we strive to provide a high level of service at all times”

Creating brand awareness is integral to making a franchise successful and there must be a clear plan in place to achieve this. Ongoing marketing should become second nature to all franchisees and most franchise agreements will detail minimum marketing spends.

Once business starts building, ask clients to recommend your products or services to their contacts. Referrals are set

on a solid foundation of trust, as an existing client has recommended the business. New clients are important to success. Retaining clients, however, allows the business to build a reliable revenue stream. It can be a lot easier to achieve business growth when income is from retained clients. At Availl, we strive to retain clients.

We conduct surveys asking for feedback on our services, which is then acted upon to ensure we are providing a high level of service at all times. Feedback from clients can make a franchisee take a step back to evaluate how their business is performing and answer an important question in franchising: am I making the most out of my territory? If you feel Availl would be the right opportunity for you or want to find out more, get in touch. Nationwide opportunities are available.” n
